| Post subject: | balance shaft assembly |
does anyone know where to purchase a diesel manual for my 2005 liberty. the Haynes manual says not for diesel on the rear cover. pulled the motor assembly to look for a noise.removed the oil pan and balance assembly not thinking about having to time it up.i pulled the rod caps and all looks good so I want to put it back together and pull the intake to look for a rocker broken.so anybody know the procedure for installing the assembly. I would greatly appreciate any info on this.thanks shawn |

The rockers usually break between 80-180k miles if the EGR is active. |

Check your torque converter bolts. I removed the oil pan on mine thinking I had a rod knocking. It turned out to be the torque converter bolts backing out for the second time. It was a lot of work to get the oil pan off with the motor in the vehicle. |

I would greatly appreciate any info on this.thanks shawn Insert a drill bit or hex key through any one of the 4 oil drain holes into the corresponding hole on one of the weights to index it in the right position. Then install the assembly with the #1 cylinder at TDC. Double check my info. I'm going off memory. Mike |

I loosened and lowered the front end and drop it down out of the way while lifting the motor with a cherry picker. There was just enough space to slide the oil pan rewards. Of course the wheel alignment was off when I bolted the front end back up again. It would have been so much easier just to pull the whole motor, hopefully with the tranny attached to it. I would think one could remove the grill and maneuver it out in one big chunk. Fun times! |
