Hi all been browsing here for a while. Lots of good info. This is my 1st post. I am from NW PA own a diesel shop with our own in-house dyno. I tune a lot of Powerstroke diesels been doing it for years, our 06 6.0L race truck makes 1301HP on fuel only so tuning on a diesel is not all new. But tuning a 2.8 CRD is definitely new to me. I got the itch to play with our 05 CRD liberty. :D

I had purchased a 2005 CRD liberty few mo back and lately decided to do some mods. Cat gutted 3" exhaust from cat back. EGR block off not installed yet.

We got a loaded Superflow dyno.

Stock it makes 154HP / 288ftlbs
Image

Installed a Power Puck 165HP / 313ftlbs

I had ordered MPPS 13.02 along with ECM Titanium. Spend a full day on the dyno tuning. I did not up rail pressure in tuning as the power puck does this. I tuned along with the power puck. I keep torque reduced till 2400RPMs as its still got a stock converter. Shudder was bad if I left it come on hard. Better converter going in this week.

Peak power with our ECM tune and power puck working together. 203RWHP @ 2800RPM 391Ft lbs @ 2600RPM. Backup run was 201RWHP

Pretty cool. Is your crd arp studded? These like to go through head gaskets almost as bad as the 6.0's

No, I was wondering how good the HG is in these engines.

Yeah I wouldn't run it at those power levels without arp's for long. Some of us have done it one by one if there is no evidence of a leak to save the current gasket. Plus our tty stock bolts are doo doo

How much does the power puck add to rail pressure?
If you didnt adjust rail pressure in the tune, what did you adjust to get it over 200hp?

It's hard to say as it fools the reading of the rail sensor. Lot in tune changes but the power is from added injector pulse width.

Pretty good numbers. Sad when you stop and think that a stock 7.3 PSD might put down 200/400 at the wheels. :ROTFL:

Would you be willing to share your tune info here:

How much boost are you running?

I do not have a boost gauge so I am not sure. I will adjust the tune to add rail pressure without the power puck then I can post it over there. I want to run it on the dyno without power puck. My ECM is not on that list I had to start from scratch its an 05 but not the 811.

keep it up man! Also if you do any additional mods, please keep them listed so we can have an idea of whats going on. So far it sounds like its a stock turbo with a opened exhaust. Those are some good numbers, do you have any stock numbers for like a power-stroke for reference?

Stock 6.0 should make almost 300hp and 500tq at the wheels. Don't quote me on that though

This dyno is about spot on from all the results we see. Stock 6.0 does close to 250 RWHP. Last week we had a 2005 Chevy Duramax on the dyno it made 260RWHP stock and with the edge on LVL 5 380rwhp. My brother had a 03 mustang single turbo. Makes 705rwhp on a mustang dyno 711 on our dyno. Track times put him at 735rwhp 9.2@149MPH.

Most the guys that run on our dyno say its low :ROTFL:

Update: I ordered ARP studs, 5.7 converter and a shift kit.

Had some time this eve so i made some tuning changes and ran some more runs. Different correction factors as its a lot colder tonight. I stated out stock then plugged in the power puck and then flashed the ecm with the latest tune changes.

This tune makes a little more power and hold better top end power. 209HP 408Ft lbs
Image

Backed up with 211HP and 412ftlbs

Why do your graphs start at 2000 rpm?
For a stock engine, mnfr spcs say peak torque should be around 2000 rpm.
Does it have something to do with the way your dyno is setup?

If you look at the GDE curves peak torque is right around 2000+/- RPM's and peak horsepower is near redline, 3800 - 4000 RPM's.

Not at all, I have a lot of torque reduction in order to prevent converter slip. I imagine torque would be higher at 2000 if i could prevent converter slip. I could start the run lower but no sense in doing this with a stock converter. I still get some slip at 2500RPM.

New converter will be here soon.

When you run the CRD on the dyno, do you use OD-on or OD-off?
I find that the TC holds much better with OD-off.

OD OFF. Dyno runs do best in direct drive converter locked.

Hows the smoke at that power level? Still fairly clean or is it about out of air?

What software number is yours? Can you post your stock bin file?
