good to hear my mind is not lost..
but it sounds like its all 4 only..

as a side note I was thinking about head studs too.. she's had a small coolant leak for a while. and reading
about the other head stud problems..it seems that I could change the studs one at a time and not
replace the head gasket..while i'm in the engine fixing things..

4 new glow plugs from IDparts..7volt kind..
1 new battery..it was 3.5yrs old any way..

its runs again..
I sure hope the 7v metal glow plugs last a long time..
just not a fun car to work on..
most likely next winter I'll get to change the timing belt and related parts..

wife told me tonight when I got home that her check engine lite was on... checked the codes..P1262 and P0672.. glow plugs..from what I've been able to find. code says its #2..but I seem to remember somewhere that order is reversed..so #2 is the 3rd cylinder from the front..or am I off my rocker I'm not sure if the plug broke..no problems running.. if all the plugs were disconnected would it be safe to run the engine? if so it'll be easier to move the jeep from where its at to the garage to work on it. its also about 75K miles into the 2nd timing belt..so should I think about changing all those parts too? -dkenny

Are you still using the original ceramic glow plugs? If yes, then I would replace all four with new steel glow plugs. If its not too cold, the engine will start and run without the glow plugs being plugged in. You still got time on that t belt. No need to replace it just yet.

as far as I know they are the original plugs. being able to run it..will help get it to the garage..it will not be going to a dealer I called a mechanic I trust..he's going to do some checking in the morning and let me know. if he cannot help..I'll have to do it my self..it won't be the first I've worked on it. -dkenny

If you just got the code running a short distance is "unlikely" to cause a problem. Your memory is not off - yes in some cases the GP wiring was reversed but whether or not yours is is anyone's guess.

Will have to remove the head and put a new gasket on

Before leaping from "small coolant leak" to ARP studs consider that there are a host of hose connections and other places that can cause small coolant leaks such that the leaking coolant evaporates and produces no drips under the vehicle. Try UV coolant dye and a UV light (I once had a persistent small coolant leak, not CRD, that was the OEM hose clamp at the radiator on the lower radiator hose); don't forget EGR cooler and hose and the oil cooler and hoses. If no luck try a simple pressure test.

It will make replacing glowplugs and other maintenance MUCH easier as well as eliminating a bunch of potential failure points.

it already has SEGR...so the EGR doesn't work..the plumbing is still there.. just getting the 4 bolt to remove the intake valve setup it was a pain.. then the 2 bolts for the cable clamp. the 2 bolts extra bolts for the vacuum line to brake system. the egr clamp screw..7mm..not 8mm or 1/4in.. and the remove the boost hose..8mm the easy part..unplugging the existing glow plugs, removing and replacing.. -dkenny

Ive currently got 7V steel plugs in my jeep and they work decent. I have been able to start up in sub 0 temperature. It wasnt easy, but she started. Im planning on switching to the 5V plugs as I have heard from Keith at GDE that they work better. We shall see.

with that many showing bad. I check them with an ohm meter before I'd start replacing. also check for other wiring problems.. I think the 7v metal should work for us..it doesn't get that cold. generally the upper teens is the lowest. -dkenny

I have the steel plugs, they were put in a few months back. I think they were 7v. I wonder if I have a battery that needs replacement. At 20F I can plug the block heater in for 30 minutes and it starts like a normal 50-60F day. Without the block heater if I cycle the glow plugs off and on as soon as the light goes out for a couple minutes it sounds like a box of rocks and dies for the first few tries. Been thinking maybe replace the 2 year old interstate battery and see if Weeks will consider an upgrade kit fir those with a stage one already.

ok guys metal GP are the only option so ceramics are good but DISCONTINUED …… /? so we are close to summer time and winter is almost behind us and VM 2.8 loves summer ill keep that in mind LOL
