Post subject:  Torque converter slipping in lockup
Just started when TC locks up it seams to be slipping in a surging feeling. This is happening at a steady speed. Replaced TC about 70-80k ago. Never changed pump, jeep now has 160k on it. I was checking with my odb2 and Ecu and TC is in the full locked state and doesn't change while this is happening. Fluid is good.
TC is the "mopar performance" since the euro was not available anymore.
Any help or ideas appreciated.
Does have GDE hot tune and Eco Trans tune.

The Hot Tune will quickly wear out a "stock" TC.
If you cant get a Suncoast or a "Euro" maybe try a TC for a Dodge Ram Hemi.

For a higher performance tuned vehicle, Suncoast TC is bulletproof and will handle any torque/HP the Jeep CRD can produce; it is the higher priced option. Some on this forum have installed the Hemi TC and claims it holds the higher torque/HP OK... :wink:
If anyone has or can find the torque ratings for the Hemi TC, please post, would like to add them to the info below... :roll:

These are the known torque ratings:
Stock Mopar OEM TC is rated for 300 ft. lbs. max (406 Nm)
Mopar Euro TC is rated for 400 ft. lbs. max (~ 542 Nm)
Hemi TC is rated for? (not found)
Suncoast CRD-1ES TC is rated for 600 ft. lbs. max (813 Nm)

This is not the stock TC, but upgraded stock one which is supposed to be like the euro.
GDE has tested it and there was no shuddering problems like stock.
At least this what I understand.

This has a feeling like as if a pump is sucking air and slipping.
Not sure if that makes sense or not, have not towed anything lately or driven it hard.

Does hydraulic pressure release or engage lockup?

Yes!
Front pump problems can cause all kinds of issues!!! :roll:

I suppose it could be.
But could also be low fluid or a problem with one or both transmission filters.

Fluid, filters, and solenoid pack can all be replaced with the transmission still installed in the Jeep.
TC and pump cannot.

Just to be safe, add some extra ATF+4 fluid, these transmissions work and function much better when slightly overfilled!!!! :roll:

Yes I did add fluid.
Took a longer drive today a P0700 and P0740 code.
Not sure if that is saying there is a problem with TC slipping or there is a problem with a solenoid.
It just is not holding.
lift a little and you can feel it lock.
cruse and you can feel it going in and out.
slight accel and you can feel it slip right out and not hold.
