Post subject:  What happens with all that oil in the intake???

Hello all!!! This is my first time posting but have been reading all of your posts for quite some time now. I have to say that everybody on here is so very helpful and is good to know that other people are in the same boat with the same problems etc... I installed the provent at about 2,000 miles but took it off at 8,000 miles because I had to have my EGR replaced and had other misc. things that popped up. Make a long story short I haven't had a chance to put the provent back on. Anyway, I have about 15,000 miles on my CRD and my question is when old navy's CCV filter becomes available, what will become of the oil that is presently inside the intake, hoses, and turbo? Let me rephrase, once the filter is installed what will happen with that oil that is already in the intake system? Will it dry up eventually? Will the oil dry up and create a thin layer coating that will eventually break apart and pieces will fly into the turbo? I'm just curious and would appreciate some input on this topic. Thank you.

Don't think anyone really knows for certian. Assuming new oil ever stops on the intake side, it should eventually draft clean from the hoses (sucked into the motor) or be trapped in the bottom of the intercooler.

BTW, according to DC the oil isn't a problem. Dealer told me yesterday that even with the Provent working on the CCV oil, the oil coming past the turbo seals is also normal and acceptable to them. DC's standard as "acceptable" oil consumption is 1qt/1000 miles. Still don't understand how they can EPA certify and engine blowing oil like this. My Oldsmobile was cleaner than that which is an ugly comparison. This is a consumption rate comparable to the old Detroit Diesel 2-cycle motors of the 1970's. Ever follow a bus down the highway and get spattered with oil?

RFCRD, I find it funny that your dealer says DC finds the oil-in-the-intake normal and acceptable, and the dealer who threw me out insisted that DC claimed ANY oil in the intake was a horrible abnormality. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Since the bozos working on my Libby knew so little about diesels as to think the injectors were in the manifold, and it is illogical to believe that the CCV wouldn't carry over some oil into the intake, I tend to believe they were blowing smoke about what DC told them about working on my vehicle.

Lawsuit still pending.

I just got back from the dealer. If I could figure out how to post this paperwork, I would. I'm going to try a contact @ DDA. If I can't get it fixed, will turn it over to a lawyer to sue for a buy-back.

And yes, the paperwork clearly states "Under 50,000 mile 1qt/1000 miles, over 50,000 miles 1qt/750 miles" as normal consumption. They also denied the presence of oil in the CAC hoses. They must be blind or I've been smoking the good stuff.

WOW! And I mean WOW! And holy crap WOW!!!!! I just changed my oil after 6200 miles and was down only 3/4 a quart according to the dipstick! I'm at 10,700 miles and still breaking in!!!

Your adding an entire oil change every 6,250 miles!!!

My oil consumption is not that bad yet. It's just their arrogant attitude toward oil consumption. I have an easily to spot mechanical problem with this Jeep and they totally blew me off. This isn't rocket science (well actually it is). I ask one simple question, Would you have bought this or any vehicle if you were told to expect this kind of oil consumption?

I recently had this same problem with the dealer on many occasions. I pointed many supposedly leaks that I have found but the dealer quoted it "as being a "seepage" rather than a leak. Yes I would have still bought this vehicle regardless of the oil consumption even though I would have to take care of a few things myself rather than relying on the dealer.

If this CRD were one of the warrantied buses I've maintained, this turbo would already be in a box going back to the OEM with a bill for my labor. Spending more time arguing with the dealer than it takes to make the repairs.
