CRD 4 linked on 2.5 tons

Well, I've been back at it. Headstuds are in, water pump is in, fresh glow plugs are in, weeks flange is on, got the top back on. I'm about to put the injectors back in after sending them off for testing (all failed for rough idle reasons) but who cares. at a 300 bucks a piece, they can stay that way in an offroad toy. I dont have rubber O rings for the injectors though. Are there specialty O rings for the inectors, or will any universal one do?

You'll want the correct oring as well as new copper crush washers every time you pull an injector. The shop that tests them should have them in stock.

They sent the crush washers, but for some reason, no O rings. :furious:

I've been on a break since the injectors came back without the O-rings. thinking about starting back at it soon. From the looks of it, the rubber rings are for nothing more then a dust/moisture seal? I have a few universal O ring kits, if its not that critical.

Finished re assembly, got her started up. No strange noises, and all smooth running. :BANANA:

plenty of pictures if anyone is watching, just a pain putting then up with photo bucket. Ordered all new idlers and tensioners as well as trans and motor mounts. I was going to order a lift pump from Sasquatch, but the harnesses are out of stock, anyone have info on the next batch? Or is it very difficult to wire one yourself?

Hi johndeere87,

I got a wiring harness (for fuel tank, ABS and EVAP system) from a petrol KJ at a scrap yard and took out the earth and the live wire for the fuel pump using a small pick after dismantling the connector. I then took out the CRD harness, took off the insulation and added the live wire to the appropriate pin hole. In my case it was pin 2 in order to connect with the factory wiring already in place. I routed the earth wire to the point allocated near the harness connector (see other posts on this forum for more details). This was easy and cheap.

Ordered and installed a PSC full hydraulic power steering pump from an XJ! It did require some trimming on the edges of it, but otherwise, it lined up perfectly.

I am still at it, if anyone cares, lol. I just finished removing the factory mounts, and plating the unibody. I have done quite a bit of work, other than that since my last posting.

All finished up and working flawlessly, for about a year now. Ill need to go with a different Image hosting site, and maybe even do a build thread, if anyone is interested.... Someday.

Please do! Its nice to have some positive and uplifting posts around here instead of constant negativity about our rigs. I didn't follow your build while you were doing it so I would like to see the outcome.
