I found quite the surprise when changing my pinion bearings yesterday. Half of the ring gear bolts were sheared off and amazingly did not damage any of the gears. You may want to check yours next time you are changing the fluids.

Wow another possible problem of applying torque to a rear diff intended for a gasser?

Or is it too much pedal to the metal?

The 8.25 is the same strength as a D44,only weak point is the c-clips.

Thanks for the post. I had one that ran perfectly fine also, but it had about 1.5 teeth snapped off of one of the spider gears (they made it to the bottom without destroying anything also) I guess they cheaped out on these parts as well? When I upgrade my rear dif to a locker, I'm going to replace the ring and pinion with one of the upgraded ones. Plus, the gear pattern is so much easier to read with new gears. I hope to install it and have it run trouble free for 300k miles...

Yes, Three bolt heads were near by the pan and the other two were up near the yoke. I can't believe they didn't find their way into the gears when they were bouncing around.
