Hello all I have been searching around on here since I bought my 2006 Liberty CRD last saturday. I do have several questions. My CRD came off the assembly line on August 10th 2005. I guess it has been on the dealers lot since September of 2005. I asked if either of the TSB were done. I believe there is one for the transmission (filters) and there is one for flashing the computer???? I asked them if they would do the TSB while I had it in yesterday to get a spare key made and was told NO. I know that my transmiision falls within the JULIAN dates as stated on the TSB. How do I convince them to go ahead and perform the TSB's? What precautions can I follow to help out?

Also I had them give me 3 free oil changes from the dealship but after reading about the problems with the 0W40 oil they use it doesn't sound like a good deal. I am planning on taking a trip this weekend 350 miles each way. Should I go ahead and buy the Protella 5W40 and drain and replace oil?? Do I need to change filter also or can I just drain oil and refill?

I also read somewhere on here about bypassing and adding a hose for the blow by to drop on the ground until old navy's CCV filter is finished. Can someone explain how to do that? I only have 125 miles on this car right now and I want it to last.

Thanks in advance...

Chris

Howdy - welcome to L.O.S.T and to CRD's
I don't know that I'd give up on the Mobil 1 yet - the 0w40 might increase to oil blowby a bit compared to 5w40 - but that's not the main cause for the oil in the intake. The main cause is the attempt to do emmision control on the cheap - and not installing a filter that's a known best practice for diesels. The filter that most people have installed is the Provent and the biggest obstacle is it's size in the engine compartment - there's not much room (my install's kinda messy - but I have clear hoses and I can see it working) - Old Navy's should be small and easy to install.
From the post's I've read - I think the 'add a hose' was a comment on the drain for a Provent install - not a substitute for the Provent install.
I bought mine at Bluebonnet in New Braunfels and they said the TSB's are for troubleshooting if you have a problem - they're not preventative maintenance - so if you're not having the problem they wouldn't do them (although I haven't been by there since the most recent one came out - sounds like they changed the transmission shift points which helps mileage -so I should be able to get the latest computer flash). So read the TSB's and be aware of the symptoms - if you have any, tell the dealer to fix it. (I haven't had any transmission problems, only the EGR fail and I'm at 16,000 miles now)

I just got my CRD this week and it has a build date of 8/05 so it's been sitting around too. Not sure why as many dealers seem to be running out..but anyway....

When I opened my hood I found a sticker near the front on the radiator cover. It was dated early this year and had TCM and a number and then PCM and a number. I'm assuming they reflashed the TCM and PCM with the TSB while it was on the lot. Check yours.

I will check under the hood this evening when I get home and see if I see anything...

As far as driving it and doing harm until Old Navy's filter comes out... any precautions?

thanks for the input

I would approach the dealership and ask for 3 free oil filters and 3 free fuel filters instead of the high dollar synthetic oil, they may take you up on that deal or maybe just the 3 oil filters and one fuel filter. Either way you will be making out.

I would run the oil to about 500 to 1000 miles at most then do the oil change W/O filter change. Before you do the oil change go to this link Lubespecialist and order the FUMOTO Oil Drain and the adapter to replace the drain plug and make what will be a PIA oil change into easy job after the first oil changge. The is a page here on the forum about the devise and how it works and make like easier for us.

If you don't have the tranny skid plate, you may want to think about buying one to protect the back half of the aluminum oil pan and the oil filter.

The CCV filter should be ready for sale by first week of July.
