Last year I removed the muffler and cat. A few months ago I reinstalled a new FloMaster muffler as I didn't like the rapping noise under acceleration.

Now I'm not liking the odor at certain times during slow trail driving. Maybe the wind direction is magnifying it, but none the less, it stinks.

Can't help but think others notice it too.

If I reinstall a new cat, will that eliminate it and if so, to what degree?

I have no muffler and no cat.
My exhaust smells like diesel exhaust.

Imagine that!!??

Actually I'm not sure it's all exhaust I'm smelling. Almost like crankcase odor. I have my EGR tube (home made pro vent style) routed into my airbox but maybe it's not capturing all that crankcase odor. Figured at least a good percentage is being sucked into the intake. I clean it every month or so.

I did exactly what you did.

I was told by a VM Motori tech North America that the intake needs an input of cooler fresh ambient air.

I was told that hot engine compartment air flowing through the intake, can and will cause HG failure.
