Went to go start the jeep this morning and nothing but cranks. No codes, no smoke out the tail pipe, not even an attempt to kick over. I'm guessing crank position sensor?

Red dot lit on the instrument cluster?

If not, check for air in fuel.

"not an attempt to kick over" meaning it isn't even spinning, or it spins and there just isn't any fire?

If no spin, then it could be crank or cam sensor. If it spins, could be cam sensor.

Could also be the ASD relay, air in fuel, or gremlins in the electrical system. Battery good and strong? Spins over solid? How old is the timing belt?

There isn't a lot to go on yet for a theory.

no red dot, engine cranks just fine. Motor only has 37K on it from my total rebuild. I have a pump in the tank and the prime pump on the fuel filter is hard. If the ASD relay went, would there be any other signs?

If you have the SKIS anti theft system (hence the Red Dot point) you could get the red dot ON all the time or flashing at you if you have a bad ASD Relay or bad chipped key. That said though, it is very easy to swap over the ASD Relay with an identical one next to it...the ASD Relay does a lot of work so all sorts of problems could show up.

I would disconnect the battery and unplug all the connectors on the ECM then re-plug them a few times to clean off any corrosion.

Also what is the voltage across the battery while cranking? It may crank fine but if the voltage at this time is about 9 volts then the ECM could not function properly.

You can pull codes on the 2005 model using the "key" method but that is a bit limited in its usage...may give you some codes to work with but will not show any fuel-related codes.

Camshaft sensor or crank sensor could be the culprits...only replace with good OEM parts! :?

Mine did no starts this winter with big temperature changes I think. Then had it quit when warmed up. Just changed the crank sensor last sunday afternoon. Sunday night have new code, P1252. Bought a new vacuum resivour solenoid this afternoon all better.

Got it back up and going, it was an issue with the crank position sensor.
