Hi all,

NEw Guy here "Carl" I have an 04 Cherokee 2.5 CRD bought today. has 70k on the clock hence I got it. From UK Hence Name lol!! Any way...

I have a few niggly issues I thought I would ask you all first.

1 - Low Power, SO when I was driving it home I went to accelerate up a slip road, and It seemed to hold at 2k Revs and held at 50mph, it felt like it was chugging if you get me. After an hours drive home and me worried I bought a lemon it started driving ok. I did notice not so much pull....(cant really hear Turbo Swoosh) I have checked the Turbo Pipes and the top one into the Inter cooler is a bit squishy, however doesnt colsapse.... I have looked in the service book and its not had a service for 30k miles.... Yet I have receipts (questionable ones) to say filters changed etc...
I Ragged it around once I was closer to home and It got more and more responsive. Pulled better etc..

Its already booked in for a full service and Cam belt a week today. I HAVE!! Read the Noob Guide and Printed it off and will eb attacking the truck tomorrow with all the checks and so on. Any Suggestions and what to do first?

2 - Squeeqy Rear end, So is this common? Shall I just attack it with WD40 or Sylicone grease? when I hit a bump etc It squeeking and away.. No knocks though...

3 - Mirrors, Well there on there thats all, the electrics dont work at all, the drivers one flops around like my nans boobies.... And the fold button operates a motor in the passenger side door yet does nothing?

Any help appreciated....

Oh yeah remember I am from accross the pond So drive on the Left and sit on the right lol..

Thanks in advance

Carl

I suspect shes sat a while....

I would liken most of the smoke and lethargy to the sitting for a while. Once you proceed through the NOOB guide stuff and clean the MAP sensor, etc. she'll probably clear up a good bit.

Double check that cold air to turbo hose you were talking about, they leak pretty much right around where the clamp is, so be sure to remove both clamps to make sure there isn't a hole there or tear you're really not seeing.

You should probably tune it.

That rear end squeak is probably shocks & springs, remember it's 12 model years old now and probably could use a new set.

Best of luck to you!

What style of fuel filter manifold does it have? I think I remember hearing that the euro spec CRD's didn't get the same death trap manifold that we got here in the U.S., but I'm on my third CRD now and EVERY one of them would eventually develop performance issues until the head was properly primed and ultimately until a lift pump was installed in the tank. This may not be the case for you since you probably have a proper fuel filter manifold and possibly an in-tank pump already. The "chugging" sounds very similar to mine when they get excessive fuel in the manifold. Something to check maybe...

Is there smoke? I didn't see anything about smoke but if there is then you should check everything between the turbo and intake manifold. If there is nothing wrong, then the map sensor would likely be the issue otherwise you would probably be seeing boost CELs.

If no smoke then check the fuel delivery. Check for air in the filter head, make sure the filter is new and clean, last resort( although most recommended) is a lift pump in the fuel tank to make sure the fuel system is pressurised

Edit: does the 04 2.5 CRD have a VNT turbo or is it a wastegated turbo?
