Hi everyone
I have a 2005 CRD, I've done all the mods from the noob section, I also have an electric fan and I presently run the GDE eco tune. I have the hot tune too but my weak torque converter doesn't like it !!!!
Now I'm thinking about finding a good TC , I've been told I should change the pump too.... and put a trango kit ! and maybe the trans tune from GDE ,I don't like the shift point on my Jeep I feel that I'm always playing with the speed the get it to lock up to acheive good MPG!
I would like to ear from the peoples here that have done it to CRD transmisson.
I was also wondering if I can use any other 545rfe from a Durango or a Ram for exemple ?
I also read so many thread about the torque converter, so many numbers and where to find it it's confusing. I am wondering if someone has just bring the TC to a shop and get it upgraded ??
I am a bit lost , any information about the 545rfe built and the TC would be apreciated
thanks
Seb
My CRD had a low mileage Dodge Ram 545RFE Transmission and Torque Converter put in before I bought it. I have zero shudder and have both the ECO & Hot Tunes and it seems to handle them fine. I really do want the GDE trans tune myself as I also find myself trying to drive around the shift points to get better mileage. I think the GDE trans tune would be exactly what I need and get those locks ups and hold them.
I also tried the Dodge Ram TCM since it came with my Jeep. It does hit the higher gears sooner and locks up the torque converter at lower RPM's, but it does have a few nuances though. It will hold 1st/2nd longer (2k+), but you can shift around letting up on the gas and forcing it to shift. The Dodge Ram TCM seems to stay in the 3rd the least amount of time, but that's easy to force by using the O/D button. It definitely hits 4th & 5th at lower RPM's than the CRD TCM. However, the biggest thing I didn't like and why I pulled it out was the risk of over revving the engine on a kick down shift and getting stuck in that 4k+ RPM range where the Diesel stops fueling and you have to let up on the gas to get it to shift up again.
For me, I think the money for the trans tune will be well worth the money.
