Apparently, after talking to a few people and scouring the internet for information I've found out some interesting things if you haven't kept abreast of the news lately.

In 2018 Jeep is going to do some very interesting things, because they want the Wrangler at 30MPG.

Jeep has nixed the idea of Unibody construction with split axles, and has decided to stay with the Frame and Body as well as solid axles in their next iteration of the Wrangler. (Thank God)

They also ARE using some aluminum components to reduce weights.

A couple things which are in development:

4 Cylinder Turbo-charged engine

Diesel option for Wranger

Jeep Truck (Possibly Ram Frame since they aren't doing Unibody now)

Thoughts? Comments?

Jeep has been teasing us with various concept trucks lately.
I will withhold my excitment until I see something on the showroom floor.

If its this...

Oh hell yeah!
Image

OMFG YES!

Probably the most sensible and practical jeep truck design. Looks like the Toyota LandCruiser trucks you see overseas.

Uh ???

Cab too small, bed too short and narrow.
Spare tire in a weird location.
Kinda reminds me of the Subaru Brat.

I would be excited about a diesel. The wrangler is not a vehicle you need a lot of power in; it doesnt tow much and its fairly light, so I think a smaller high mileage diesel would do well there. It would give you plenty of torque for crawling around offroad too. I thought there was talk of the 3L ecodiesel from the JGC or Ram 1500. I think thats a little more motor than they need probably.

I still would never buy one new since they are quite possibly the worst daily driver ever. I would need a lot of disposable income to wanna pay $33,000 + another $4000 for a diesel option to get a vehicle like that.

Vaporware bullshipping promises are always 2 model years away. Ever wonder why? The average attention span is less than one model year long. Many of these concepts have been seen before, like the Jeep Truck and wrangler Sargent editions, back around 2014... For the 2016 year? Hmm. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice.... I'll never buy from you again.

Looks like the Keiser will be an option for wrangler unlimited as a kit. They don't plan making the Keiser.

Hexus, I'll either get the Cherokee trailhawk either ram EcoDiesel. Unless they come with a diesel on the wrangler...

I would be all over an FC with diesel motor but NOT with a Wrangler cockpit. Wife has a wrangler and I'm not a fan, claustrophobic and crap for visibility.

I could give a rat's behind about diesels in Wranglers. Scratch that: I just have zero interest in Wranglers; they just aren't my kinda thing.

But getting a Jeep truck, and hopefully with a Diesel...that has my interest. Granted, I cannot afford it, but...meh.

It was the Gladiator, not the Liberator. Presuming you are talking about the 4th photo, of the green truck concept vehicle. I'd have sold one of my testicles for a Gladiator at the time.

Rixram, beer on me if we ever cross paths...agreed on the Wrangler thang. They are all over the place here. Many geeked out, would love to know how many of them actually leave the pave. Status symbol...

Could do that...probably someone's traded in lease though, which means my Lib needs to make it another few years. Given the creaks coming out the front end that noone seems able to diagnose I just hope it doesn't disintegrate on my next road trip, which happens to be in a week and a half...
