CRD plug-and-play harnesses for Cummins lift-pump retrofit

Air-in-fuel problems inevitably arise on the Liberty CRD platform due to a fundamental design choice to not implement a low-pressure in-tank lift pump like what was implemented on the Dodge Cummins CP3 system. Jeep gave us a relay and a fuse, but the in-tank lift pump was scrapped for production: clearly a cost-savings measure, rather than a technical one.

Installing a lift pump eliminates air-in-fuel issues, reduces wear on the high pressure CP3 pump, and improves cold weather starting. Our plug-and-play harnesses make the Cummins low pressure, in-tank lift pump retrofit process as easy as possible, saving time and reducing hassle. Our top notch wiring harnesses are made by hand in small batches right here in the USA. We only use OE-quality wiring and sealed connectors; everything is professionally soldered, shrink-wrapped and loomed.

Original poll:

Lately we have gotten a few requests from customers looking for a dead simple plug-and-play wiring harness for the Cummins in-tank lift pump install. The gasser 2005 fuel pump harness is now discontinued and price on the 2006 model harness has increased from $55 to over $100. Sure you can always DIY, but not everyone has the time, tools or skills for that. Aside from our 100% plug and play harness, the only other thing needed is the fuel pump itself which are readily available (Cummins 5143160AA / Carter P76148M / Airtex E7181M / DELPHI FG1224). This combo provides a straightforward option for solving the inherent air-in-fuel problems which inevitably arise on the KJ CRD platform due to a fundamental design choice to not implement a low-pressure in-tank lift pump like they did on the Cummins CP3 system. They gave us a relay and a fuse, but no pump. Clearly a cost-savings measure, rather than a technical one.

Depending on interest, we could offer something relatively quickly. Quality would be very high, hand-made in the US, OE-quality components, sealed connectors, soldered, shrink-wrapped, loomed, etc. (Those who have our intake heater kits or dash-mounted switch panel kits can vouch for the quality.)

There will two versions depending on whether your CRD is a 2005 or a 2006. For the first batch we would need 5 pre-orders of each year. Price for the first batch would be in the neighborhood of $150-$200. (We could potentially get the price lower on future batches if there is significant interest to justify higher quantity production runs.)

Once we get 10 orders of each version, production will begin. Orders ship within 3-6 weeks of production beginning, if not sooner. You'll be kept up to date via email and this thread. Once production starts, there are no refunds.

Please vote in the poll above and we'll go from there. If you already have an in-tank fuel pump installed, please refrain from voting. Thank you.

Having had to make my own harness it would be awesome to have them pre-made and ready to go. Worth the money in time saved.

Based on the responses, is this a go or no-go? I've got a Kennedy fuel pump sitting in a box ready to install, but if I can do the in-tank without all the fiddling with the wires, I will wait and go that route.

Yes, the level of interest via this poll and emails is enough for us to proceed with developing prototypes. Once we have tested the prototypes we'll be able to take pre-orders. Stay tuned. :D

Like I said, sign me up Seth. My fuel pump install will be on hold until you get this ready.

Hi Seth - this might seem like a stupid question, but if you do develop the harness, will you also be selling the pumps?

I'm interested for my 2006. I already have the airtex, but have blown off doing it because of not wanting to build the harness.

For now the scope is limited to the harness, and the buyer provides their own pump. But if you are having problems finding a pump on the other side of the pond, I can supply one for you along with the harness.

edit - yes, we will try and keep some pumps in stock

Thanks - I'd have to import one from the US anyway, as far as I can find there are no importers over here!

Can we get an ETA on these harnesses? Are we talking days, weeks, or longer?

Just finished with the Sasquatch fuel pump wiring harness in my '06. Also bought the Carter pump from Sasquatch. Float and float arm on the Carter from Sasquatch was identical to the OE. Even had the same part number. I did not trim the tab on the Carter pump. Seemed to be fine without trimming. The float went unobstructed to the bottom of the tank (it did not hit the hump in the tank). The harness made this a breeze. Well worth the money as far as I'm concerned. I figure the harness saved me several hours or more between sourcing parts and putting it all together. Couple of tips for anyone doing this job: 1. Don't remove the back seat, just unbolt the front and it lifts up. If you do remove it, get a friend to help. 2. Remove the ABS sensors before trying to remove the connector. It's easy to see how to unclip the connector with it out, and it's only one 10mm bolt. 3. Don't trim the tab on the fuel pump, and don't swap the float arm if identical to your original. 4. Don't disconnect the breather next the filler tube. Un-clip the clip holding the breather to the filler tube, then pull the whole thing out with the tank.
