Off CRD topic, but diesel related!

I just picked up a 1985 diesel Toyota Corolla. I used to own one years ago, same color and all. Great car. This one is from NC and has been Ziebarted. The body on this one is nicer today than the previous one I sold in 1995.

Quick question. Does anyone here know of a good source for parts in the states for the Toyota 1.8L 1C diesel engine? I asked GDE & ID Parts and they had no suggestions. Parts are plentiful over the pond, but these were only sold for 2 years in the states (1984 & 1985). It needs a little engine work, but I think I can get her up & running fairly easily. I can always resort to the dealership for parts, but would like have a nice aftermarket supplier as an alternate. Thoughts...suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Billy

Wow.
Didn't know a car like that existed.

Google "1985 diesel Toyota Corolla parts" looks to be a few options.

I did. It was mostly Alibaba overseas suppliers that actually had parts. Rockauto actually carries quite a bit for it. Filters, starters & alternators are fairly easy to get. I'm needing the glow plug resistor wire and some specific hoses that aren't available locally. I may just have to break down and go to the dealer for some of the parts I need. I was just seeing if someone here was familiar with parts suppliers for these. I know my options are limited.

We drove the old Corolla diesel we had to California & back to Ohio. Averaged 44MPG. Had to turn the A/C off going up the mountains. The 58HP was struggling!

Yeah...Someone said they only sold something like 400 of them in the two years they sold them in the states. I don't know how accurate that is. I didn't research it. I would think the numbers would have been higher.??

Glow plug resistor wire I would think would just be appropriate gauge wire although you might have to fiddle a bit to mate new wire to older plug ends. On the hoses takes some dimensions, if you don't want to pull the hoses, and make friends with the counter folks at a "real" auto parts store like NAPA (not one of the box auto parts stores). You may very well be able to find a close enough fit even if you have to cut a section out of the middle of a longer hose.

Yeh I saw RockAuto seemed to have some parts.

Papaindigo...The jumper wire that goes between the GPs is fine. It has a ribbon resistor (flat s-shaped wire/bar) that goes to the jumper. It may be salvageable. The loop is broken off of one end. The hoses I need go to a cold engine/fast idle module on the injector pump. They are small hoses, a little bigger than fuel lines. I may bypass this as I really don't need it. It's a lot of opportunities for coolant leaks. I don't let my cars sit and "warm up". I start and drive them after a half-minute or so. It will have some sort of block/coolant/oil heat in the winter anyway.

see if you can find it here, I think it has a 1.8 diesel, and I couldn't find it:

http://www.autohausaz.com/search/model. ... &year=1985

They have a bunch of old mercedes parts on that site.

I've not looked, but I presume that there are probably more in Europe than in the US. Based on that, I'd look at eBay.co.uk for parts there. The Royal mail is pretty inexpensive and reliable for getting them here. I did that on some CRD parts, since the UK uses the 2.8L CRD a helluva lot more than we ever will. Apparently common in taxis, fwiw.
