good , since you going to speak to VM rep, please ask him for explanation why this motor likes dropping valves into cylinders , because were still scratching our heads why? thanks in advance . and how to avoid this ? some guys like selling it at 100,000 miles , but how about keeping it and keep valves secured in cylinder head

just phoned to the local dealer -> he needs the engine number for requesting about any parts... And usually they don´t rebuild passenger cars engines, just trucks and site vehicles... :x

so i don´t think he is the right contact person for your question... :? But i also can´t follow your question, maybe as result of my native language.

So i´ve to inquire: What do you mean exactly with this word "dropping". Like i know at the moment, the valves are holded by the rocker arms? the rocker arms are turned by the camshafts and so the valves are turned up and down / open and close. Does the valves break and drop or what did you mean?

For explanation: Here in Austria, there are not many KJ selfmade man´s, drivers for sure, but if there is anything damaged they drive to the dealer. So i´ve heard only of one blown HG until now at a 2.8CRD with 173983miles/280000km and none of the other problemss which you all described?

bye,
samse

Yes, valve can brake and drop into cylinder , also damage is done to , piston - liner and cylinder head possibly connecting rod …. etc

Does anyone know, if someone changed the 163HP engine vs. the newer one A428 DOHC with 177 or 200HP?

bye,
samse

thx, there are not many news for me in the thread -> what i´m especially interested in, is how possible it is to get the newer engine run in a non CanBus system like my export KJ is....

Thinking to use the same wiring harness and if there are more sensors on the newer one, i´ll let them unplugged.

but what´s about the VTG?

bye,
samse

ok i would stick to original set up and rebuild old engine or get a good used one . just to stay away from additional problems trying to adopt newer system , STAY SIMPLE AND SAVE MONEY .

Roadblock could be making the piezo injectors work with KJ ECU, I believe they run higher current or something that makes them uncompatible.

You also have electronic vs vacuum controlled turbo vanes, but GDE's already did the conversion with their turbo kit.

Everything else like engine mounts, transmission, hose routing and some other things may not fit, but probably not a big deal with a bit of hammering.

Second option (if you save your engine), let's push GDE to produce a batch of turbo kits and take us to were we want to be  :JEEPIN:

How does it feel when you try to turn it over by hand?

On cylinder #4 (nearest to firewall) excessive clearance seems to be present on the last exhaust valve (also nearest firewall). Have you disassembled that rocker or do we have a broken rocker or broken valve spring? How many miles on the engine?

Labor wise, it may be smart to install ARP studs, and new rockers following a complete inspection of the head, cylinders, glow plug top of pistons. Replace the ceramic glow plugs with the new style metal plug too.

I agree with digedeon. Something doesn't look right on the last exhaust valve. Gonna need to go even farther. If you can't turn it by hand something is def binding it up.

I think you might want to consider pulling the head.
