Post subject: | DIY ECU Questions |
Hi, new KJ CRD owner here. ![]() I'm in a bit of a bind; as I need to get my Liberty through MARTA (Emissions), but I have an egr code and two glow plug codes. These are preventing me from passing MARTA here in Tennessee. I can replace the glow plugs easily enough and don't want egr anyhow. However the weather isn't letting up for me to actually replace the glow plugs. I was gonna ask if it is possible to get a flash for egr/fcv and glowplug deleted dtcs with a stock tune. I already have a set of new 7v steels from IDparts so it is definitely on my to do list, again I just need to pass marta ASAP. The thing is I ran into something interesting. I bought the MPPS v13 and got everything installed. Just ran the ecu read on the jeep and got a version number on the software that I haven't been able to find in the DIY ECU thread or by searching the site. I am not sure how to handle that, if I can just upgrade to a more current software version, as if I am reading the versions correct, mine would be an older one. The version that MPPS read is 10373756 Maybe I've just missed something and made a mistake. Any help is much appreciated. My KJ is a 2006 Limited with 126k miles. |

Did you try opening up the tune file in notepad to read the number? I would advise against removing DTCs for the glow plugs. You kinda need those. If you can, get the Sasquatch Motorsports stage1 kit and install it when you do your glow plugs. |

I did. It said the same number that MPPS showed me. I don't have a way to upload the bin file but I am certainly willing to send it to any one who wants to take a look. I agree that I need those DTCs this would only be to get it through MARTA. Its not a real thorough inspection. They just hook up to the ecu; see what it has to say, test the exhaust emissions, and check for a catalytic converter. Afterward, I'd flash it back to a standard egr/fcv deleted stock tune. I travel through the week; so, if the weather is bad on the weekends working on my vehicles is a pain. I definitely plan on a full stage one and two egr delete from Sasquatch. Unfortunately, I will just have to do the work twice. I just can't justify the cost at the moment. update: I just got a lucky break in the weather so I am gonna knock out the glow plug replacement. |

If you can figure out a way to get me you base bin(google drive, dropbox?), I could take a look. I have deleted several DTC's in my 808 tune so I know how to do it, it would just be a matter of locating them in your tune. For all I know they could be in the same location |

I appreciate the offer mass-hole. I was able to get the glow plugs changed today. Still had the original ceramic plugs in her. So, I don't need the glow plug codes removed, now I just need the EGR/FCV delete on a stock tune. Here is my .bin file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_M3ZADvK66PTmRYR285bXV6cGM/view?usp=sharing I wonder, since the original glow plugs were still there, that my jeep software was never updated by the previous owners, and perhaps that is why I am not getting a 808 or 811 version number. |

Hi Mastrolta, My CRD is also a 2006 but does not have the 808 software. I opened your BIN file and my BIN file in wordpad and this is what i see... 1037377526P53362K4 mine 526 version apparently 1037375617P_533623 yours 617 version it appears try opening your original BIN file using ECM titanium or Win OLS and see what driver the prgram recommends to edit the software. it takes a while to get the grasp on what these programs do so watch some you tube videos if possible. Another thought is that my Jeep has also not been at the dealer in a really long time (like 8 years), so maybe they would agree to check to see if I had the most recent ECU software when i take it in do the recall work (rear lower control arms and fuel tank/trailer hitch bolt recall issues). Here are some links to these programs that I used: ECM Titanium Management Tools http://external.informer.com/alientech.to/ Download WinOLS http://www.evc.de/en/download/down_winols.asp http://www.ecuedit.com/. Dropbox with 2 installers https://www.dropbox.com/sh/08l7doemzbqp ... 7zCla?dl=0 MPPS 13.02 ECM4Free |

Thanks, for the information. I'm just not comfortable making changes to ecu software itself. I was hoping it would be as simple as flashing a matching version back to my ecu with the deleted fcv/egr. Since no one has mentioned just using 808 or 811, I imagine the version must match what I have. I'd greatly appreciate if you or someone else who has experience with this, would make the necessary changes to my version. I am runnin out of time to get my jeep through MARTA. This egr flow issue is the last thing holding it up. |

Hi Mastrolta, I am still trying to figure out how to modify the 526 version, so I don't think I can be of any additional help. Most 2006 models have he 808, so there are several modified .bin files that you can download and install, if yours is aactually a 808. However, based on opening your .bin file in notepad, i looks like it may be a 617 and I don't think i have ever read anyone else having that one. But maybe it is a dif version and I am reading into this data the wrong way. can someone please confirm or correct me? |

Your tune is identical to the 808 tune it seems so I can disable the codes. Can you let me know exactly what codes you need eliminated? |

It's interesting that it has a different version number, but that is just my luck. Lol The only codes I have left after replacing the glow plugs are: the P1140 from the unplugged FCV and a P0401 for insufficient EGR flow. Since, all i need is a FCV/ EGR delete now, and its identical to an 808 do I just use that or does the version number have to match? |

I would be very hesitant to try and flash an 808 tune without a backup plan. I will try to delete those for you and post up in a little bit. |

Thanks mass-hole! I wish I could give you feedback sooner on the new tune, but I just found out I am working through the weekend. Where my job is concerned, it means I won't be home till next Thursday or Friday. If I can get a buddy to try it this weekend, I'll let you know how it goes. |

Unfortunately, I had to work another weekend hence it taking so long. Great news, The new tune worked like a charm. Flashed the ecu in a minute or so and took it straight to MARTA and passed with flying colors! Thanks again mass-hole!! |

Hello, I currently have a CRD with version 617 ECM. I am trying to get the EGR tuned. The 617 version must be rare because this only thread that has a peep about it. I am trying to download the BIN from Google link. Saying access denied. If anyone has a simple 617 tune (EGR/FCV) I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Trying to get rid of the CEL for the egr valve that fell off and more power while I'm at it. Does anyone know if I can write a 808 tune over it? I'm using MPPS software, read the file, and opened in wordpad. It shows 1037375617P on wordpad. |
