Comments: 1. "chips" are not ECU programs. Chips essentially "fool" the ECU by sending bogus/fake/whatever sensor data to the ECU to change performance. As such they may or may not be harmful 2. I note 2 things about this ad a) it's focused on the Jeep Liberty with no mention of CRD or diesel hence I suspect it's a chip for the KJ gasser and if that's the case useless or outright harmful for the KJ CRD and b) I find it interesting that none of the performance curves shown are for a Jeep Liberty. 3. there are a number of KJ CRD specific ECU tunes available. The best IMHO is by GDE (http://www.greendieselengineering.com/Welcome.action); pricey but does very good things for power/economy/engine life. My son and I have run both their EcoTune and I'm running their Stage II Turbo with the Turbo tune. If the cost of a GDE tune is out of you "reach" there are plenty of free tunes on the forum that, while not as sophisticated or "good" as the GED tune(s), are helpful and much better than any chip. |

I highly suggest you read this thread if you are a DIY type. viewtopic.php?f=98&t=78418 A custom tune will do more for you than a "chip". |

Yep that thread from squeeto is really the the best or else get a GDE tune! These special "performance chips" usually have a potentiometer inside which allows you to adjust and thereby fool the ECM/PCM into thinking that it needs to supply more fuel or change the mixture...can improve the performance but usually at the expense of fuel economy. I bought one of these fancy chips from an Italian firm for my 2.5 CRD on the recomendation of a former member here...this plugged in series with the CRDs MAP sensor and fooled the ECM into adjusting the fuel mixture. Improved performance for a while but at the expense of economy. About a month after fitting this magic device the engine went "bang" while on a long trip and ground to a halt....took me about three minutes to disconnect this device and continue on my way. Opening up the device proved that it was indeed just a potentiometer but it was not worth my while sending this back to Italy to get my money back with all the hassels involved with shipping, Customs etc. Another School Lesson learned! ![]() |
