Spent an hour on various "CRD vs gas" keywords without finding any relevant/helpful threads (again, LJs search algorithms seriously bite...)
SO; apologies if there are piles of answers to this question, but i couldnt find any.

Part/component compatibility between 05 CRD and 05 gasser?

While waiting on the rockers, ETC., for my beloved but 'getting noisy' 05 CRD (145k), I'm seriously considering scooping an 05 gasser that's got essentially everything else I want for my stock* CRD: ARB airs front/back, 2.5" lift, Good Duratracs, ARB front bumper. It's a 6-speed manual which, excepting urban traffic, would be awesome in a CRD!

Anyone know how much of that stuff will bolt-on to my CRD? Even if the answer is 0 (well, the bumper def will), I still may not resist this swanked libby, even if it wanks gas.

I suspect that the manual tranny won't bolt to the 2.8s bell housing (let alone clutch-swap), but where do the gassers and CRDs "mate", at the trans-to-tcase? Same stock diffs?

Many, many thanks for sharing your hard-fought and invaluable Libby experience and knowledge!

*actually, not quite 'stock': sasq. 1/2, Bosch glo's, kennedy pump, 11-blade/clutch. If all's well after incoming parts installed (rockers/ARPs/tbelt kit, thermo/HG), then GDE next. Hoping at least the gasser's ARBd axles can swap...

ARB airlockers should be ok to swap, lift no - the weight of the CRD engine (and ARB bumper) will overpower the gasser springs. I believe the diffs are the same, but trying to transfer the manual box to the CRD would be a fairly major job.

The 2.8 VM in the CRD has the same bellhousing pattern as the 3.7L (V6), 3.9 (V6), 4.5L (273) 4.7L (V8 SOHC), 5.2L (318), 5.6L (340) and 5.9L (360) engines.

The 3.7L V6 gasser should have all of the parts you need for the manual transmission conversion.

I have swapped a manual for an auto in two vehicles, neither of which were Liberty CRDs. Based on my experience with my swaps, you will likely need the following:
*transmission
*flywheel
*clutch/pressure plate
*clutch hydraulics
*clutch/brake pedals
*transmission mount
*shifter
*shifter inner boot
*shifter outer boot
*front driveshaft
*rear driveshaft
*ECM or ECM reprogram (maybe)
*possible transfercase input shaft replacement
*rewiring for the clutch pedal engine start permissive and cruise control interlock.

I attached a link below to a CRD manual transmission conversion thread. His biggest challenge was/is gearing.

The gasser you're looking into has a decent price imo. Only the updates over stock are worth the asking price. Keep in mind that gear ratio in the Diff may be different than stock crd 3.73.

The gassers ARBs are 3:54.
So, how well would that mate to CRD torque curves?

The deed is done. Bought it.

So, I must be certifiable because I am about to drive from Vermont to Baja! I have the time, if little else.

At least Thursday I'll get to cross "Fenway" off my bucket list.

If any LJs need any postal-prohibitive parts delivered westbound from Burlington/Albany/Cleveland/Chicago/Omaha/ Denver/Vegas/Socal, I may be able to oblige!

Gonna' take it easy, 3k miles in 2-weeks ish.

Who knows, if the gasser grows on me I may complete and sell my CRD rather than swapping all the goodies off the gas-beast. Stick is nice, sans traffic. Love coasting...

The 6 speed manual has a lower overdrive ratio than the 5 speed auto. With the manual, you may decide 3.07:1 is better suited for fuel economy.

NSG370 ratios
1st - 4.46:1
2nd - 2.61:1
3rd - 1.72:1
4th - 1.25:1
5th - 1.00:1
6th - 0.84:1
Rev - 4.06:1

545RFE ratios
1st - 3.00:1
2nd - 1.67:1 (upshift)
2nd - 1.50:1 (downshift)
3rd - 1.00:1
4th - 0.75:1
5th - 0.67:1
