Post subject:  After coolant flush service.
Had the above mentioned service, flush and fill at a local Virginia chain.

They used Havoline Universal, which claims complete compatability with all diesels.

I understand 'not mixing', and I'm not mixing after a flush, so-is Havoline's documentation to be believed, or am I screwed without another flush-n-fill to go with 100% absolutely HOAT with no other qualifiers on the label?

The shop claims full diesel compatability according yo Havoline, and says they'll reflush if I pay for it.

Keep an eye on your coolant.
If you start seeing deposits in your coolant tank, take it back to them, and flush it and fill it with the proper HOAT coolant.

Yet another reason to NOT trust a mechanic to know whats right for your vehicle.

There is a note in there about some OEMs require silicate containing coolants.
HOAT coolant does have some silicate.

Your cooling system was designed for HOAT coolant and they used OAT coolant.

Make them flush it again and use the correct coolant at there cost,they messed up so not your fault(well it is for not researching).

I do not agree with their claim!!! :shock:
From Havoline's own web page on their Universal Antifreeze comes the following statement:
Havoline wrote:
Always confirm that the product selected is consistent with the original equipment manufacturer's recommendation for the equipment operating conditions and customer's maintenance practices.
Some OEMs require the use of silicate containing coolants. Follow your OEM's recommendation.

Universal Havoline is a OAT antifreeze and DOES NOT contain silicates.

Chrysler requires HOAT for our Jeep diesels:
Hybrid OAT (HOAT) coolants, such as "Zerex G-05ยจ." Use organic acids, but not 2-EHA (2-ethylhexanoic acid) (different organic acids are used). Hybrid OAT coolants add silicate to provide quick-acting protection for aluminum surfaces. Silicate also helps repair surface erosion caused by cavitation in the water pump.

As others have stated, I would take it back to them and require them to reflush and install the correct antifreeze on their dime!!!! :roll:

I'm not sure what is so special about crd so it cannot use oat and must use hoat. I believe that if properly flushed, you can safely use oat. All Chrysler vehicles recently switched to oat. I'm not sure is they changed anything regarding seals, hoses, plastic formulas but if you want to play safe, I'd change to hoat back. You won't damage your engine for sure, but there may be a risk with the other components (hoses, plastic, etc). I doubt that but who knows...

Thanks, guys.

Had another conversation with the manager.
Showed him the glovebox manual listing spec.
Showed him the thread.
Offered to call Jeep for him.

He offered the do-over if I paid the difference in price for the spec'd coolant from Jeep.
I figured I'd won enough points and took the offer.
Got her back this afternoon, and we're both happy.

Very glad it came out in your favor! It is best to be safe rather than sorry. OAT may suffice as some claim, but why take the risk with such a high dollar engine.... :wink:
