A "Tune" is simply a re-flash of the on board computer (OBC) with some modified parameters that disable the operation of the FVC (flow control valve) and the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve. There are free tunes available along with "How To" instructions on this forum at:

Another option when using the EGR block-off plate that was not mentioned is to remove the butterfly plate out of the flow control valve! There are only two small screws holding it to the FCV shaft and by removing it, renders it inoperative even though the OBC still thinks it is working. This way you can leave the MAF sensor plugged in and in service and not have any DTC (check engine lights). I ran this way for a period of time before the Weeks elbow kit became available.
I still recommend installing the Weeks elbow kit at some point and doing a re-flash of the OBC as it has several advantages like being able to totally remove the FCV, EGR, and EGR cooler and associated coolant lines and is the best option in the long run!!!
