I tried searching around but really didn't have any luck. I just got the jeep back together this week from a HG replacement/timing belt job. I beleive they are glow plug codes, but am not sure, nor am i sure which ones?

I'm going to be JACKED if they need to be pulled lol, since i forgot to install them before i put the intake on and had to pull my intake fitting for the weeks kit just so i could get #3 in. I have some bad connectors on the harness I'm wondering if maybe its just a crappy connection.

Other than those codes and my deleted EGR Its running great and not bubbling anymore air into the coolant bottle :)

P1260 - glow plug #1 control circuit open
P1262 - glow plug #2 control circuit open
P1264 - glow plug #3 control circuit open

I would say its probably a bad connection

The code info came from this thread viewtopic.php?f=98&t=40073

Thanks a bunch. I looked and had no luck finding that post. i will have to check my connections. The plastic covers were missing when i tore it apart to fix the HG but i never had any codes from them. I'll have to look at it today.

Side question. Does the ecu look for the GP's even when its too warm to activate them? or does it only know they are not functioning when it tries to cycle them?

That way i have an idea on when i should check for the codes to show up because it has been unusually hot the last few days here.

The glow plugs are used *every time* you start the engine, the temperature just determines the duration they run after the engine is running. The light on the dash is not so much a "I'm using glow plugs now" light, as it is a "wait to start" light. That is why in 98% of the environments in the USA, you will only see that light for a half second or even less - You don't need to wait to start. But the plugs are still energized as the engine is first running.

So it seems by those codes that your plugs do not have good connection with the harness. PLEASE use some anti-seize paste on the threads, and use no more than 10-12 lbs of torque on the plugs. The seal is not in the threads, it is down at the base, and they don't need to be overtightened. If you do tighten them too much, then you risk metallic corrosion binding them and they can shear off the next time you go to pull them. I also hope you have installed the Etecno or Bosch (depending on your voltage program) metal plugs, and are not using the ceramic originals anymore. Those are bad news.

The ceramic's haven't been in that engine for the last 3 years or so. I replaced them with the 7v ectno's had them in less than 2 months and had 2 of them go bad so i replaced all 4 again.

If you are getting codes for them, but you have a not-great-condition harness, are you sure it was the plugs and not the harness? I realize that Etecno has had some revisions in the quality of their plugs and maybe the early ones weren't the longest lasting... But this system also is very sensitive to electrical glitches because that is also how it detects whether a plug is good or not - the resistance is measured. Bad connections really mess with the resistance.

It was definitely the GP's I ohmed them off of the harness, and they were also sent back to ID parts and they replaced them. Real fun project to do outside in winter in PA lol
