Recently picked up Yakima Timberline Towers with round bar adapters paired with 48" round bars. This is a 32' extension ladder atop the Yakima Load Warrior. I attached it with 2 ratchet straps which worked ok. However if I do this again I need to get some ladder stops. Just way to much horizontal movement no matter how I strapped it down.

Anyone else hauling huge ladders around?

Can't be hardcore unless you live hardcore, right? :JEEPIN:

LOL.
I had to do the exact same thing last month, except I used bungee cords :ROTFL:
The wind blowing over the holes sounded like a pipe organ.
Didn't drive it too fast or too far.

To my eye it seems your bias is way too forward. I'd try sliding it back 2, maybe 3 rungs.

Glad you appreciated it flash!! YOU are a brave man using bungee's! Too many horror stories to trust those things.

I just was worried about having so much excess hanging off the back. The front is at least still over the hood.

Bias and balance are unimportant here - it weighs nothing compared to the strength of the straps. I would have gone even further forward - the rear clearance is definitely the concern.

As far as strapping it, here's the trick:

One strap around the forward set of rungs just forward of the rack, then loop under the rack and back over the next set of rungs to the rear. That will hold it down to the front. Continue to the back, and circle under the rack again before going behind the next set of rungs aft - The force on this strap is now trying to pull the two sets of rungs together, and at the same time, "lift" the rack into the ladder.

The second strap circles the outside rail of the ladder and the rack together, at least 4 complete wraps in a very wide spiral from front to back - This prevents the ladder from turning or shifting away from the edge of the rack. Tighten the straps, and check the ratchets again after a couple turns to ensure they are still snug. THEY WILL LOOSEN.

I just noticed your blacked-out, factory 2006 wheels. What kind of paint did you use?

I'm starting to like the blacked-out look more and more.

Solid advice!! Thanks man. I'll have to give that a try.

I got her second hand about 4 months ago. Had been considering a CRD for a while and thought she was a looker as well! :) I just thought they were an upgrade option at purchase. You thinking they were originally silver and then modded?

Doing some googling you might be right!
Here's my same rims but their stock appearance Image
The previous owner had some good taste. I'm not sure if you can tell from this photo but all the windows have been slightly tinted and adds to the overall effect.
