My wife reported that yesterday the 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD would not move if shifting from drive to reverse, But would back up if she went to park and then back to reverse. I'd appreciate any input on the issue. |

Sounds like something is loose? First thing to check is the bracket on the side of the transmission that holds the shifter cable and make sure all parts are in good shape. Also check the shifter cable where it attaches to the shift lever on the side of the transmission. If no problems are found at the transmission end of the shifter cable, the next place to look is at the shifter cable attachment points on the shifter assembly itself....

Thanks. I do not think that is our problem. I messed with it a little after posting. Sometimes when you put it in reverse from drive, it will go in reverse. But the engine over revs before the Jeep moves. Mostly the jeep just sits and doesn't move when you go from Drive to reverse. But it doesn't feel like it is in neutral or park. It has worked every time when you go from Park to reverse. The Jeep will be on a lift tomorrow, Your suggestion will definitely be checked |

Kinda sounds like the common drain back problem. Does it happen after sitting awhile and eventually will go? |

It is just occasionally that it will actually go into reverse from neutral or drive. When it does take off in reverse after being shifted to reverse from Neutral/drive - it has a delay, over rev and clunk It always goes into reverse when shifting from Park. |

Sounds to me that the problem is in the valve body. Could be a bad solenoid or a bad accumulator. |

So what is the solution? Are there parts I should order and install when servicing the transmission? Or should I take it to a transmission shop for repair? Or should I service the transmission and ignore the symptom until it gets worse? |

Drop the pan and you may find a split or slipped pancake filter. |
