 Post subject: FINALLY installed my Amsoil Dual Bypass oil filter setup

So, after like 2 years of procrastination, I finally got my Amsoil Dual Bypass filter setup on the Jeep. I went with the Amsoil 2 micron bypass filter, but am using a Fram Ultra XG8A(same unit that fits the normal filter location) as the main filter instead of paying some outrageous price for the Amsoil unit.

I decided, after staring in the engine bay and at the undercarriage for far to long, that the best place to mount the filters was on the side of the trailer hitch, behind the drivers(US) rear tire. I dont think this is ideal since its a fairly long path to the engine, but it tucks up there very nicely and is fully behind the wheel well liner.

You can see there is a gold plate under the filters, that was the mounting bracket that came with the kit, but my plan is to mount a heavy gauge plate to it to provide protection from below. The send and return oil lines are run up and over the axle following the brake lines. I centered it over the rear boomerang as to avoid contact with suspension flex and then ran them down the left "frame rail" to just in front of the transfer case mount. There, I sent them over the top of the transmission making sure to keep the bend radii large and then ran it along the right side through the transmission fluid lines to the adapter.

The hardest part once it was installed was making sure the oil filled the system. I left the return line hanging while I cranked the motor over(not starting, just cranking) until the oil started to come through. Then I hooked up the line and took it for a test drive. So far so good. No oil pressure issues or anything. In fact, I suspect oil pressure may be unaffected since there is now substantially more filter area to flow the oil through. I will update this post with oil condition in a few thousand miles. So far I only have about 100 miles on it.

I believe I put in about 9 Quarts(it was 2 gallons plus another partial gallon) to get the oil up the MIN mark on the dip stick. So it probably give you an extra 2.5-3 quarts or so between the lines and the big 2 micron filter.

This is awesome! I never would have thought to put the filter back there. I've been trying to work out a good spot for a remote oil filter for years. How messy/difficult is it when you have to change the filter?

I pre filled the filters, which I have always done, and for some reason a lot poured out. Maybe I was just slow. There is nothing underneath the filters so as long as you put a catch pan under there it should be pretty clean
