Hello from Australia. Thermostat has died in my 2006 KJ. only gets to 60 degrees after hours of driving. Question, Whats the easiest, simplest,cheapest fix. Options as I see it are genuine replacement, modded houseing or inline. Whats the best? Question, Does water temp effect other things in the vehicle? I used a lot more fuel than usual and in the cold of the morning the trans. was reluctant to change into top gear Thanks, Peter |

As per AJOR reply do not use an inline fix..people on here have had very very bad experiences with this setup. |

I'm only gonna reccomend getting a factory replacment thermostat. Dont get a Crown thermostat. There are other options but its up to you to do the research and figure out which is best for you. |

Low coolant temperature will hit your fuel economy. AFAIK the gear shifting is based only on transmission temperature so your failed thermostat shouldn't affect this. phum wrote: What are the problems with the inline fix? It's far from conclusive but there have been some overheating issues, blown gaskets, warped heads etc that may be correlated to the use of an inline thermostat. Cheap - Personally I've modified four housings as per the Sargeindustries design - for myself, a local buddy and a couple of LOST members. If you have access to a machine shop and some time and the necessary skills it costs a few bucks in aluminum plus the thermostat. Easy - If you can't do the above mod the manufacturer part probably most closely meets your requirements and regardless what anyone tries to tell you around here there's really nothing wrong with the OE thermostat other than the fact you'll probably be replacing it again in a few years if you still own the vehicle. |

I modified mine to accept a "normal" thermostat. Fairly easy if you have access to a metal lathe or know someone who does. viewtopic.php?f=169&t=50940&hilit=Kapalczynski+thermostat |
