Post subject:  Engine Rebuilders ???
Looking for a reputable diesel engine rebuilder. Anyone have experience with one? Dont need one right now just being curious and would like to get a rough estimate on cost. Like it or not all of us will need one at some point if we plan on keeping the CRD up & running.

No, but mopar online lists short bock for about $6135. Geordi may be able to rebuild whole engine or may know who could. I would be surprised if there aren't places in europe to do it but doubt in US yet. Demand should be increasing now. I know europe has some places that deal strictly in the VM engines . I don't know names but have seen in searching for parts etc. in past. Saw one place that said they could rebuild injectors for about $100 plus shipping .

I'm not rebuilding the whole things yet... But I seem to be getting there slowly. I just put a liner and piston in for the first time, haven't reassembled it yet though. About to start doing valves (gonna start on my own first of course) and hopefully if people replace the valves they won't NEED the engines rebuilt!

The biggest problem I see is improper maintenance and wrong oil. Use the right oil (Mobil 1 TDT 5w-40 or Shell Rotella T-6 5w40) and a 5000-6000 mile oil change. DO IT and your engine will last.
