Hello All,

I have a 2006 CRD. I have a small coolant leak (getting bigger!) that I'm pretty sure is coming from a small split in a 1/2" (maybe 3/8") line on the drivers side rear of the engine. There are two lines one above the other. I think one is oil?? and the other coolant? They are above the Intake Elbow. What the heck are these lines called and what are they running to and from?

It just go to the point this weekend, after a long drive, that I was able to pinpoint the leak. I'm assuming I can just change them with some high pressure hose and new clamps and move on to the next problem... how naïve am I being thinking that??

Thanks for any help... I can get some pics tonight if it helps.

Pictures would be helpful!
If you are talking about the two small 3/8" lines and two 1/2" lines BELOW the intake on the drivers side at the rear of the engine, those are all coolant lines associated with the EGR cooler and EGR valve.. Best solution is to get rid of all that crap, EGR, FCV, and EGR cooler!
Weeks makes and sells an Elbow Kit that allows you to remove all of that junk (items in picture below) and plug off the EGR feed line as well as all the coolant lines to and from the cooler.
View Here: >https://shop.sasquatchparts.com/products/weeks-kit-stage-1-intake-elbow-kit-egr-bypass-2005-2006-jeep-liberty-crd/

If nothing else, at least block off the EGR exhaust feed tube until you can install the Weeks kit...
A simple block off plate can be made out of most any sheet metal and installed to keep the EGR from dumping that crap into your intake!
See this thread for dimensions and instructions: >http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=76576&hilit

EGR cooler is the top right hand item in the picture:

See pic 3 at viewtopic.php?f=98&t=74594 .

Immediately above the braided heat cover over over the intake manifold elbow pipe you can see 4 coolant lines going up. The back 2 go from the EGR cooler to/from the EGR valve (just in front of the copper color pipe). The other two go to a nipple on the block and a hard pipe that runs over the top front of the valve cover and supply water to the EGR cooler and back to the coolant system.

Leaks in this area are not uncommon. Other than possible formed bends these hoses are simply heater hose.

If you invest in a tune (GDE is ideal but there are free ones) that disables the EGR valve you can cut the EGR/EGR cooler out of the system by routing a bit of hose from the nipple on the block directly to the hard tube over the top of the engine.

The large coolant hoses are just 1/2" heater hose, the two small hoses are 3/8" hose and you can use some transmission cooler hose for them if necessary. If you remove the EGR valve and cooler, you can plug off the 1/2" hose at each end since it is no longer needed and serves no worthwhile purpose, less leak potential points...
If you decide to remove all the garbage and install a Weeks kit, you will have to install a tune (computer reflash) to get rid of the DTC's (check engine light) that will be triggered by unplugging the EGR valve and FCV...

There are do it yourself tunes available on this forum for most US builds. View this thread:>http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=98&t=78418
For the short term, you can disable the EGR valve electronically by unplugging the MAF sensor located on the air inlet pipe just behind the air filter on the air filter housing box. This will set and hold a DTC but will not hurt anything or change the running performance of the engine other than keeping the EGR from dumping the crap into your intake...

Have any questions, just ask, there are many on this forum willing to help!!! :D
