My apologies for stupid noob question: how do you check trans fluid level in your CRD? There is this enormously long dipstick which, yes, has all the marks, but for me it comes out every time with fluid all smeared over its length. Well, at least some fluid is definitely there, but how do you get an accurate measurement? Saying a prayer or performing some sort of war dance just prior? Or maybe pulling it out one inch per minute? Beats me! Thanks in advance! Alex |

Yes we have a crazy long dipstick, mine is even worse since I got a Jasper replacement transmission, my engine cover is over top of the dip stick but this keeps it from popping out. So this is how I do It: 1 drive Jeep to heat up fluid to operating temp, I never trust it cold 2 park on level ground, place in Park or Neural with park brake on!! leave engine run 3 open hood, remove cover, 4 pull out stick and wipe, reinsert 5 pull out stick check that fluid is with in the add and full marks for HOT fluid. I disregard any little bits of fluid higher up and only look at what fluid is consistently on the stick from the bottom up 6 put stick back if its full your done, put engine cover back on/close hood. if you need to add then you need to wait a bit for all the fluid to settle down the tube before you can get an accurate reading again. |
