Post subject:  Idler pulley part numbers in Canada?

Having a hell of time finding idler pulleys for my 2005 liberty crd here in Canada.

NAPA Canada doesn't list anything, and other parts stores refer me to the dealer.

Does the 3.7 liter idler pulley fit? That's the only pulley NAPA Canada has.

Can't afford the $500 plus cdn to order the pulley set and belt from idparts ....exchange rate is brutal.

Thoughts?

That the NAPA # ?

I wonder why they didn't list any pulleys up here?

Ok thanks I'll try that number up here.

You can punch out the bearings and replace with new ones from a good manufacturer....must be sealed on both sides!
The tensioner pulley uses same bearing but rivets have to be drilled out and replaced with 5 mm bolts, nuts, washers and Locktite.

Before responding I need to know which idler pulleys you are looking for a) serpentine belt or b) timing belt.

Oh yeah, good catch.
I immediately thought serpentine belt because I had just replaced one of those pulleys.

Timing belt would be totally different.

You must be talking about the timing belt kit here.

At a minimum, you need the timing belt, 2 idler pulleys, 1 tensioner, and you should also replace the water pump. You can also check with your local mopar dealer for parts.

First off you need to understand most all parts stores, including NAPA, will lookup the year/model/engine/etc in their "book" for parts and if the book doesn't list anything that's where they stop. A really good parts store will go further and see if there is a substitute part that will work but that requires effort and often having the part in hand.

For the serpentine belt idlers NAPA 36101 (just lose the big washer) or Precision Parts EP101 are replacements (NOTE that same pulley can replace the pulley on the serp belt tensioner).

For the timing belt you need:
1. belt - Gates T336 or equivalent
2. tensioner - 5142798AA; as far as I know there is no good alternative to OEM
3. 2 idlers - I suspect a) you can take one into NAPA and find a replacement with the same diameter or b) simply replace the bearing. With respect to the latter there is a post on LOST about replacing an idler bearing but I don't have the link and don't recall what idler was involved but the job is relatively simple.

UPDATE the serp idler bearing replacement post is at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=76128

For the Jeep 2.8 CRD engine, the NAPA number for the serpentine belt tensioner pulley (PULLEY ONLY) is NGB 36141
(Bore 17mm x O.D. 76 mm)
This is just a replacement pulley, it is not the tensioner itself!
https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p/NBG36141/NBG36141_0197695225?interchange=1

A good parts man should know how to use the interchange!!!!

I've seen both the 36141 and 36101 referenced for all 3 serpentine pulleys. Google tells me the 36101 is referenced a lot more on L.O.S.T.. They have slightly different dimensions:

36101 - 31mm wide x70mm diameter
36141 - 22mm wide x76mm diameter

The belt is 22mm wide so the 36141 allows very little margin for tracking.

I've not actually compared with the OE pulley but I'm currently running the 36101 as the 2 fixed idlers and I replaced the bearing in the tensioner idler.

For the TB idlers, I'm a bit uncomfortable pressing new bearings into plastic pulleys on such a critical part.

No this isn't timing.....that was done 30,000 ago along with new valves and rockers ($7000 CDN)
Its the idler pulleys, possibly the ac/viscous, and most likely the alt and tensioner.

With shipping and exchange rate it's approx $500 CDN to get the idparts serpentine belt and pulley kit up here. Plus border fees.

Been thru this already with the timing belt kit and other stuff earlier this year. No one carries it up here.

I'll go back to NAPA here in Langley and see if they have that part number.

Also the rubber damper seals in the fixed idler pulley are squished out due to the almost seized bearings, so I can't press a new bearing in. It's fubared.

Just based on the pictures of those two, the 36141 seems to be the closest thing to the pulley I just took off.

36101 is the idler pulleys, 36141 is the tensioner pulley, they are not the same pulleys!!!

Post subject:  Re: Idler pulley part numbers in Canada?

update, after a month and a half of searching locally, provincially and across Canada, i was unable to source the parts.

due to the vehicle being parked on the street, and having to move it every two days to avoid tickets and towing, we finally ordered the pulley set from ID Parts.

with exchange rate and shipping and border duties it came to $600 CDN.

Jeep back on road, nice and quiet now.

had to work the weekends as well as the week to get the money.

these jeeps are f-ing brutal.

so far over $16,500 (including purchase price of $7000) in repairs. Could have bought an old 78 Ford 4x4 and had money left over for a Cummins diesel swap into it. sigh

I realize this is an older thread but I thought I would put this information out here for anyone it may help. I needed idlers for CRD and was unable to find them locally. I did some researching and bought 2 dayco 89052. They are 76 mm X 27mm were reasonably priced and fit and work fine. These do not come with bolts or bushings so you need to reuse your old ones.
