Recently purchased a CRD limited 06 CRD

Wondering how you can tell if you have the factory original fuel filter head or the updated fuel filter head.

Thanks

I know that if I'm wrong, someone here will correct me, so here goes.

Studying pics and videos of people changing theirs from old to new, I noticed that one of the electrical plugs is ovalish and the other is rectanglish.

On mine, and all the photos / Videos I've seen where people claim this is updated, the oval is on the Driver's side, and the rectanglish one is on the passenger.
I've seen 2 photos of CRDs that haven't had this done, and in both they were oriented differently.

I'm sure there are better ways, but I, like yourself, am waiting to learn.

Orientation has nothing to do with it. Heater plug is much larger on the newer head. Temp sensor is the same size. Heater connection is on right.

First gen filter head: right side (closest to drivers side fender) two wire electric plug is black, 2nd gen filter head has bright blue plug and is larger!

Don't be terrified of the first generation fuel filter head. It is not going to spontaneously ignite on you. Keep an eye on it and make sure it is not leaking. Where are you located? If it is in a warm climate the heater may not even be functioning and your risk of a problem is low. The next time you decide to change your fuel filter then decide if you want to upgrade to the second generation unit.

I have both units, my 05 has the new one installed and my 06 has the factory original old one.

I got a replacement redesigned one to replace the one in the 06 but I have not used it yet. If anyone would Like I can post a picture of them side by side.

Thanks everyone, It seems I have the original fuel filter head, and seeing I'm north of the border I have ordered the updated parts from IDparts to replace,

Thanks again
