Hello I am wondering if anyone out there in Jeep CRD land knows a reliable and resonable mechanic .I am located In Langley BC Canada . Please be clear I am not at all interested in flying in a mechanic or paying accomidations or travel or worse the exchange rate on our sucky Canadian dollar sooo .My issue I need to do my timing belt my friends husband does work at the dodge jeep dealership however he cant do it without having to charge me dealer rates and that is not happening . I refuse to screw with the timing belt myself . Its just something if you screw it up you screw it up and I may as well buy a big ol FORD sticker and slap it on the back of my jeep :goink: True story .

I seen a thred on here a while back I know there is someone in Abbotsford that works on these . But anyone really in langley aldergrove abbotsford even surry or chilliwack if I have to .

let me know please . Jeep Liberty CRD 2006

hi,

i went through the same issues as so i can understand. I got my TB serviced south of the border near exit 182 so it is a good one hour drive south (near the 202 casino )and the guy charged me 6-7 hours of labor @ 100 bucks an hour. (dynamic diesel in snohomish). The second time around i got it done from BC diesel in Surrey @64. they gave me a low qoute and did a good job ( the tech knew what he was doing) but the shop manager was a real POS . they did a bait and switch i ended up paying 3000 in labor only as according to them the estimate was just an estimate and he had mis-calculated the cost to do rockers, arb studs, weeks egr delete kit and replacing a TC in my tranny. So i had to pay 3000 cash to get my ride back from them as they had held it hostage. So take you pick . Butch brake and muffler were also not afraid to give a qoute of 6 hours of labor in this. i did not use them for TB but for an unrelated repair they were good.

HI COWGIRL. I USED pawliks automotive in Vancouver. Great mechanics, and they have done at least three of these blasted pieces of junk.

Hi there. So pawliks will do timing belt as well? I was told the timing belt tool was only available thru the stealer ship and they apparently don't rent them out either. I'm in 2 minds about selling my jeep and if I can get a reputable Tech to service my crd I might change my mind.

The tools were available for anyone to buy, not dealer only. If that shop got them early they would have paid a lot less for them than the crazy prices they go for now.

However, they are not strictly necessary. Any mechanic that has worked on a variety of belted engines, takes the time to understand the nuances of this particular design and understands how to tighten a pulley that is not keyed or tapered without it losing position while at the same time keeping tension on the belt should be able to do the job easily.

Many of us here have changed the belt, tensioner, idlers, water pump etc without any special tools or at most fabricated our own for next to nothing,

One thing you should do is verify exactly what that shop is offering when they replace the belt. It may simply be a mark and pray job. This is fine as long as he validates the timing properly afterwards and is able to take corrective steps if it is off.
