Post subject: | ABS issues |
I have a 2005 CRD with the three channel ABS system that I'm having ABS light on issues with odometer not working. It was intermittent but now is on all the time. I checked the wires to the rear sensor and they are good. I replaced the rear sensor and connector. I bought a ABS scanner ( Harbor Freight) and it says all my sensors are bad. I changed both front sensors as well. Now the ABS is on all the time. The scanner also threw a code that said PCI Bus shorted to voltage and PCM Messages not Received. I'm wondering if my ABS control module is bad? Has anyone been through this and have answers?? ABS Codes Thrown: 1/6-- Left Front Wheel Speed Signal Failure 2/6-- Right Front Wheel Speed Signal Failure 3/6-- Left Rear Wheel Speed Signal Failure 4/6-- Right Rear Wheel Speed Signal Failure 5/6-- PCI Bus Shorted to Voltage 6/6-- PCM Messages Not Received Is there a way to initialize a new ABS control module to my V.I. N. number without going to a dealer? |

I had a similar issue, it turned out to be a broken wire on the front wiring loom just before the connector for the front right sensor. It was very intermittent. With the car stationary no fault could be found only happened when driving over rough ground. Might be worth checking before replacing the ABS unit. |

Thanks, I checked both pair of wires to the front speed sensors and they are good. I'm thinking that the ABS control module has an internal short. |

I also checked both pairs of wires several times for continuity and all was ok but it was luck with the meter fitted lost continuity when I moved/pulled on the wiring loom. My guess was the previous owner gave up looking for the fault and sold it. Good luck with it. |

The wires are good. When I take live data from my scanner on the road, I can see that the vehicle speed sensors are working and measuring my speed. The info is not getting through and out of the ABS module. Very frustrating! |

I replaced the ABS module as well as the Forward (Gateway) module and neither made any difference. I don't know what to check next..... |

Just wondering if you tried erasing all the codes, and if they all comeback right away? |

Yes, I've cleared the codes multiple times, but what happens is that the codes for ABS near delete completely. Within a few seconds of clearing they are up again. Is the PCM part of the ECU on the CRD? |

Is the PCM part of the ECU on the CRD? PCM is for gassers, ECM is for CRD. I believe some newer models have the ECM/PCM intergrated with the TCM in the automatic models. I know that the ABS controller has to be programmed for manual or auto transmission and maybe other things so maybe your ABS controller needs re-programming? ![]() |

I'm having the exact problem. I guessed it was the rear sensor like most seem to have had trouble with. I replaced the fluid, sensor and pigtail. Still no change. Does anyone know what voltage I should be getting to the rear speed sensor ? |

!2 volts should be at rear senser. |

The ABS unit came from the sme donor CRD with the same part number, so I didn't reprogram it. |

So I'm guessing 5.5 isn't gonna cut it then. At least I know the culprit, now finding where I'm losing current is gonna be fun. |

While we're on the subject of ABS issues, anyone got any ideas on this issue? To start with all bearing hubs replaced with moog, new front and rear suspension, new brakes and rotors, new rear diff, new ABS speed sensors and cables, new tires. Dry road no issues. Wet road hit brakes and jeep pulls right or twitches toward right (only one time) then it stops fine. |

Double check the voltage. Most sensor circuits are regulated 5 volt and come out of the controller or computer in the system. Getting wiring diagrams is always a good help. Locally I can go to public library for either a Haynes or chiltons book. One library has a subscription to Mitchel service books in their reference section. Online Michigan residents can access the MEL library and link to chiltons online service. |
