NOT reverse-threaded, correct ???
I know it's a stupid question, but I'm leaning >150# on this bugger and it still won't spin (doing front seal).
Appreciate confirmation before I recruit the 4' breaker bar (onsite have my Impact but no compressor).

Also, anybody got the correct installation torque in memory?

Thanks!

Many thanks!
203# seems kinda' insane for a 5-passenger vehicle, no? Chugger earns industrial-grade torque...
I scoped notes re rear-seal replacement crank-shim caution; I presume that's not a concern up front.
Curious to see if crank is woodruffed or cam-style commando.

The large crank bolt on the front is a left hand thread. I was just looking at mine earlier today

Thanks for the reply.
By "Left-hand thread" you mean "reverse-threaded", correct? Clockwise-off, correct?

"Right-hand threaded" equals "Normal" , counter-clockwise off, correct?

Sorry to pose a "would you like fries with that?" question, but I'm about to pull that sucker with a breaker-bar and want zero confusion.

In fact, I'd greatly appreciate another experienced voice to confirm the crank-bolt removal rotation, particularly if it's reverse-threaded.

Given that the tbelt pulleys are in fact "reverse-threaded", the crank's threads are not automatically a slam-dunk. At least not for me...
(if anybody else searches LJ for "crankshaft bolt torque" etc., they may also appreciate some clarification here.)

Thanks in advance.

Not a problem, sometimes clarification is needed wit these engines. By left hand thread I mean in order to remove the bolt turn it clockwise

Confirmed: crank is a reverse threaded bolt. Left (ccw) tighten, right (cw) loosen

I figure this would be the place to ask, I'm looking at trying to tighten this bolt now. Is there an easy way to keep the engine from turning to be able to torque it correctly?

I made up a metal bracket that rested on the cross member with four holes that matched the crankshaft pulley with a larger hole for the bolt to pass through it. I guess you could lock the starter ring gear in a similar way.

I still haven't pulled mine yet (waiting on Head from machine shop to proceed), but in general for securing crank pulleys during bolt R&R (please tell me that at least the CRD's CRANK pulley is woodruffed!!!), I rely on a chain-wrench (prefer "vise-grip"'s version) wrapped-over a suitable length of old tbelt (12"ish) wrapped around the pulley. Typically there will be some sort of sturdy component-bracket that the wrench-handle can brace-against to prevent rotation; or if all the accessory brackets have been removed you can reinstall a bolt or bracket solely to serve as a brace for the wrench-end...

Tip: whenever I'm waiting on a head, for protection against any potential interim oxidation I coat the top of the block, pistons and chambers with a sheen of motor oil and gently cover with lint-free rags. Before installation, use a metal-cleaning spray (or similar; brake-cleaner spray likely fine) to clean block & head mating surface = DRY, DRY, DRY. Conversely, the piston-tops/chambers can just be wiped and left 'slick'; (obviously) a mild pre-lubrication with clean new motor oil is not a problem for them.
