Take the core and the plans (you can search them out) to a machine shop and they can build it for you.

Good for you. I'm pretty good myself, but I don't have a lathe or the ability (yet) to TIG weld on aluminum. One of these days...

There are stick welding rods for aluminum now and also aluminum brazing rods. I'm planning on doing mostly mechanical construction so the welding shouldn't be that structural.

UPDATE: I installed a Stant 195 degree in-line thermostat in the upper radiator hose and now it heats up to the middle of the gauge. Here are a couple of new thermal pics showing it at operating temperature. The engine seems to heat up quite evenly.
