If you guys want black, I can do a custom order, but it would not be at the reduced price, it would be at the regular price of $169.95. Also, pre-orders will ship first. If you want to proceed, go ahead and place your order and I will bill you for the difference. (Make sure to include in the comments that you want a black version.)

Safe to say we will be offering these for the foreseeable future, even after the pre-order, but most likely a made-to-order part. The pre-order gets you a price break since we can save a little money doing them in batches.

I think the Group 65 battery your custom tray fits is slightly larger than the O.E. size battery, yes? If so, does it tend to have more Cold Cranking Amps and reserve capacity?

I know you mentioned that the TSL17 engine coolant heater does not touch anything underneath the fuse box, but I am still concerned with radiated heat coming directly off of the heater itself. The Webasto TSL17 heater puts out 17,000 BTU of heat at full blast, and is capable of heating a 3500lb engine block... this thing pumps out 12.5 times the heat of the O.E. block heater. How close does the heater come to anything, especially anything that can melt?

Would it be possible to put fire blanket material around the outside of the tray to protect parts and wiring next to the heater?

Yes. Factory is ~800 CCA and Group 65 is ~950 CCA.

Temperature measurements taken of the heater and surrounding components indicate this is not a concern. The hottest component is the exhaust tube; we wrapped ours in thermal exhaust wrap in an abundance of caution.

Anything is possible. That would be up to the customer to implement.

Any reason you guys don't just cut the lip off the engine side of the battery tray and install a group 65? It's free after all.

Not a dig at our resident Sasquatch in any form.

That's one way to go about it. Did that with my daily driver for a while. However the battery tie down didn't fit anymore. Then when I wanted to install the Webasto I decided to get creative.

You should see what I had to do to my battery tray (the correct 1 for a group 34/78 battery from a '04 KJ) to fit the Odyssey PC1500DT which is a group 34/78 battery.

Just out of curiosity, has this been tested with a Webasto on an '05? I know the FCM/Gateway Module mounts in that area and I'm wondering whether it's necessary to relocate it in order to fit the Webasto.

Yes, mine is an '05. The module does need to be moved.

Sounds like it's difficult to modify the existing tray to hold up to extreme off road vibration? Is this larger battery going to add a significant amount of insurance for cold starts WITH the grid heater? For my high speed off road needs, this looks like a great way to secure the battery better, not to mention better cold starting

Absolutely! I use this battery with an intake heater.

Not really, you cut a lip off of the tray with some tin snips and then install the new battery.

I do this on my XJs and KJs since the group 65 is common and was used anyway in the WJs.

Batch 2 is full. Batch 3 is now open.

Right now it's looking like Batch 1 and 2 will ship the 1st week of December.
