Hi everyone I'm new to the forum and new to Jeep family a well. I live in Scotland at the moment but originally I'm from central Europe. Long story short, I've bought a jeep that was sitting on a farm for few months. Been advertised as clean and that it starts and drives ok. Was cheap so I expect some things to be below standards but I've took it away to encounter a problem as soon as I hit something else than dirt roads. Gearbox only goes in first, second and then engine redline itself. Got the jeep towed home and of course seller told me in a very unpleasant manner to go and have sex with myself because it's not his problem any more.
It's a Cherokee KJ 2.8 CRD from early 2006. Transmission say RFE on it, did some research and it's 545rfe.

First thing first I've checked the fluid, it was low so I've put some more in it and nothing changed. Managed to borrow a scanner and it show two codes:
P0871 (cleared and did not came back after one more test drive)
P0733 (came back after clearing and test drive)

Underneath I've found that someone was fixing the pan is a bit dent towards the filter, not much but when You look closely You can see it. I've drained it to find no magnet inside the pan, fluid being brownish red colour, seemed a thicker than the fresh one. Accumulator plate looks like new but to be sure I've taken the actuator assembly out. Accumulators got some scratches on them, number 3 from the left got the worst ones, even the walls got scratches you can feel under your nail. Last thing I've opened was the assembly itself with ll the channels, some black stuff came out but no notticable clogs or anything. Did not open the solenoid pack.

It's my first automatic I've ever owned in my life but I've driven few and got some basic knowledge about it. Was wondering it servicing it will possibly cure it or it's too far gone and needs a second hand one. Can upload the pictures of the accumulators later on.

How many miles are on it?

Seems like you've done a good job inspecting the valve body.
The fluid was either very old or burnt.

I would suggest putting it back together, install new filters and fresh ATF+4 fluid. Then see how it shifts.

101k miles. Spoke to few locals and they say if the oil is brown and non transparent it's most likely fried friction plates. Problem is to revive this box I need to buy pan, accumulator seals, service kit and 10l of Atf+4. Can get a second hand box for 280 delivered

Yes, but with a secondhand transmission, you will still need the replacement fluid. These transmissions also like being operated with an excess of fluid, you will not hurt anything by putting in 2 quarts extra and in fact may make it run a lot better.

At that mileage and with the obvious abuse of the previous owner, you also really need to do the timing belt - like NOW. It is way overdue on age, as well as mileage.

Yes but I rather spend money in transmission I know it will work. Will upload pictures of my findings when I get home. I know about the belt. Will change waterpump, thermostate and glowplugs along with oil service.

Pictures I've taken

Forgot to mention accumulator plate is spot on but it have marks on itself due to accumulators bottoming out. Is the pressure too high or something?
