It seems like when I am cruising along locked in 5th and need to bump it down to climb a hill, the transmission jumps straight to 3rd, shoots up to 3000rpms, then settles to 4th momentarily then back to 5th locked. It's very difficult to get it to hold 4th after the downshift because it likes to either just stay in 3rd or go back to 5th.

Is there a reason the trans cannot shift straight to 4th locked from 5th locked? All I ever need is 4th to give me a few hundred rpms and a little extra gear, not this dramatic downshift that send the rpms skyrocketing.

Its in the TCM programming.
Be glad it doesnt downshift into 2nd prime.
Maybe GDE has a solution.

I really wish there was a "autostick" feature for this TCM. I'd like to be able to manually select 4th or 5th gears.

Why not just use the o/d button to force 4th and then just roll onto it and build some boost?

Turning OD-off will drop it down to 3rd.
But will hold 3rd until you turn OD-on again.

Interesting. Didn't realize taking it out of o/d put it into third. Wonder if that's something a tcm tune could change.

I would like to be able to manually select gears too. Was the hemi ram with this tcm ever available with autostick? I am running gde eco trans tune

Gde eco trans tune. I was gunna ask then next, just wasn't sure if there was some technical reason for it since I thought I recalled the stock tune doing the same. May put my pre f37 TCM back in and see what it does.

I have been meaning to ask GDE about this. It keeps me unlocked when I drop below the 5th gear lock up speed until I reach that does again, or drop to the 4th lock up speed, it's insanity :banghead:

I don't know what it is but the logic on our tcm's just seems to be horrible(I don't mean gde's tune). It's so specific about speeds, Like it doesn't seem there is any leeway for upshifts or downshifts with regard to load or anything. It's just 59mph. You can be coasting down a hill at 58.9 mph and it won't shift to 5th because you're going .1 mph too slow . . . .

This where the Hemi TCM really shines.
It will hold a gear for as long as you are still in the throttle and upshift as soon as you lift off.
So it can shift into 4th+lock at about 40 mph and will hold that gear all the way out to 70mph as long as you keep your foot in it.
But if you lift your foot at 50mph it will shift into 5th+lock.

The downside of the heni TCM is that it downshifts way too easily.
I dont get any shudder with my hemi TCM because it will downshift before that happens.
And it still downshifts from 5th to 3rd. And in some cases down to 2nd prime.
No 5th to 4th.

No 5th to 4th.

I had a ram TCM for a while but the easy downshift was the reason I stopped using it, especially on tight highway entrance ramps. I sent it to gde to get it flashed to the eco tune but for some reason it wouldn't take their tune but took the preliminary pre-f37 flash they apply first. So now I have a pre-f37 and gde eco.

I wonder if they could tell the ram TCM the proper redline for our motors so it doesn't downshift too far.
