I just pulled the oil plug today on one of mine and used a fat o-ring that fit for a seal. I'm not a fan of those crush washers.

Here is a thread about threads... (heh, so meta) http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=31949

Thanks for the link. But it seems like everybody has his own thread pitch in that thread... I can't decide who is right...

If your drain plug threads are not stripped and have never been rethreaded to a larger size...

Get a Fumoto F-102 drain valve. $30.95 on amazon.

Why the hell are those so expensive. I mean, I have them on all of my cars, but I cringe Everytime I buy one.

Why cringe? You are only buying it once - The thread repair kit is like $18 anyway... This seems like a fair price for never risking the threads again.

Cause its a ball valve. I bought one for my garden hose for $5.

Copper drain plug washer part# 04720353

The drain plug should be a 3/8 inch British standard parallel pipe thread.
That would be 19 threads per inch and an outer diameter of 0.656 inches.

You only need one. Heat it with a propane torch 'till it's red then cool it down. You can quench it or cool it slowly, copper doesn't mind. I'm still using the original washer for 10 years, ~30 oil changes.
