These little temp gauges can be found on Amazon or eBay for under 10 dollars.
The hardest part was finding finding a good spot to feed it through the floor.
On the passenger side, just below the radio, I was able to pull down the carpet and drill a 1/4 inch hole.
Don't go too deep. There are sensitive parts down there.
Of the two trans cooler lines on the transmission, the top one is the outlet to the cooler. I zip tied the tip of the temp probe to that line and wrapped it in some rubber insulation.

Been in the mid to upper 80's this week here in Florida.

Typical trans temps when fully warmed up and driving around town, TC unlocked: 170-200F
At highway speeds, TC locked: 140-160F

Got this installed today. I ran the sensor through the firewall plug above the go pedal, down the metal brake lines, and up over the tranny. I metal taped the sensor to the upper metal line going to the cooler. Then I covered it with a piece of rubber hose and zip tied it in place.

I have AutoEnginuity, so I can monitor the internal tranny temp with my laptop. Here are some observations:

In town driving shows the temp reading 20-30 hotter than my laptop ranging from 150-180 degrees.

On the freeway temps were about 10 degrees cooler than my laptop ranging from 130-160 degrees.

This is my initial observation after an hour or so of driving.

When you do your next transmission service, drill a hole in the pan and install a male and female 1/8 npt port (inner) then add a gauge/probe. Epoxy the inside and outside of the pan for peace of mind. You can also add 2 orings when you sandwich the inner and outer 1/8 npt ports in the pan. I've been using this setup since forever and I have no leaks. But that will cost you more than 10 bucks. Another alternative is to install the probe on the pressure line, if you really want to see what is coming out of the transmission.
