--moving my post to the CRD forum, this Jeep seems to have already been modded, possibly could have belonged to a fellow member here.

I found a big dealership selling a black 2006 Jeep Liberty 2.8L turbodiesel w/ 4x4. It has 127k miles on it and I'm the 5th owner. Body is clean, a few dings and scratches, and no accidents. No records, but in the maintenance book I do see where the previous owner wrote in that the timing belt was changed.
Price: I think I got a good deal at $5100+TTL - Take a Look:

Condition:
Air filter is new
No oil leaks, back of the oil pan looks a little dirty though - possibly from an earlier oil filter leak.
Oil freshly changed by the dealer
transmission fluid has a nice red color, I noticed the transmission control unit was replaced (orange sticker shows it was done under a warranty in Feb. 2016)
coolant looks clean, looks new
Fuel filter looks a few years old, will change it at some point - it does have the replaced fuel filter head with thicker wiring.
Power steering fluid is orangish colored (not sure if it needs a change)
Brake fluid looks clean but brown in color.
BF Goodrich Long Trail Tires are about 5 years old and have around 50% treadlife
Interior is clean, leather seats with no rips (yet), has aftermarket radio (BOSS brand, it's alright)
Has a new battery (Feb 2016) and looks like a newer alternator w/ Zen pulley
Factory fog lights are oxidized - i just gave up polishing, will replace.

Drivability: No weird sounds, this is a solid running diesel with lots of torque! Suspension feels good.

Stuff I'm looking into:
-I'm thinking of adding the EVIC so I at least have a garage door opener with all the digital readouts. There is a plug hanging out behind the rear view mirror, and I think it should plug in there.
-Floor mats! This Jeep came with no floormats. My guess is the owner probably had some expensive liners and took them out before trading in. At any rate, I'll be getting some gray Husky liners - starting with the fronts.
-Thermostat - I want to replace mine with the higher temp 195 or 203F, but see that housings are a bit of a problem, something I'll check into at some point.
-Engine block heater, it seems the previous owner wrapped up the 120V plug and ziptied it to the dipstick. We don't really need it here in Texas, but I guess it must have came with the car.

-Engine Tuning:*** Is there a way for me to check if this jeep ever had a GDE tune, or if the ECM was updated? Reason I ask is because I unplugged the MAF sensor, and after driving over 100+ miles, the check engine light has not turned on (i've since plugged it back in)

This CRD seems to already have the elephant hose mod with the rubber pipe going from the CCV.

Is there any easy way of knowing what kind of work was done to this, or if it belonged to anyone here?
One of the most interesting mysteries i'm coming across is seeing how the previous owners maintained everything.

Looking to go offroading as soon as possible. :CAMPING:

Plug behind the mirror should be for a power dimming mirror - previous owner may have added that and retained it, you can buy them aftermarket.

Checking for a tune: When starting the engine from cold, if the RPMs rev up to about 1200 and then settle back, that is the indication of a GDE tune. Emailing GDE with your vin number will confirm whether it has one of their tunes or not.

Brake fluid usually looks brownish, that isn't really indicating much. The percentage of people that would have even looked at that fluid much less changed it without removing the calipers is probably very low. The heater cord is always ziptied to the dipstick, that was from the factory. Sounds like it has never been used. Cord is probably rotten and needs to be replaced, $12 or so from IDparts.com

Sounds like you got a decent one. I hope there is a record of the timing belt and water pump being changed however - that is due at 100k miles or 6 years, both of which are WAY expired. You need to know about the age of the belt for the next interval however. Timing belt and water pump get changed at the same time.

When I start the engine, RPM goes to 1100 and drops to normal - guessing this disqualifies the chance of there being a GDE tune. I'll still email Keith to ask.
You're right, the cord is rotted, I'll take care of that.
Service manual has handwritten notes stating the timing and serpentine belts were changed at 90k with Gates brand belts.
Jeep website shows the safety recalls are done, and thankfully no F37 detune but I do see the transmission control module was reprogrammed under recall campaign F31.
Whoever owned it knew about the elephant hose mod, there must be more to this vehicle. It's very interesting that after driving for hours without the MAF plugged in (multiple trips), still no check engine light. Yes, i've confirmed the light works. This does have me guessing what kind of tunes are there.
I'll keep hunting for clues, and I'll also start scouring the salvage yards for goodies :D

Note to sellers: Please leave love notes for your new and enthusiastic buyers so we know what you did to you Jeep ;)

Based on your rpm flare at startup and you lack of MAF codes, I'd say you have the GDE tune.
You can plug your MAF back in. The GDE tune reduces EGR function to almost zero.
I still recommend fully deleting or blocking off the EGR valve.
Make a good inspection of your fuel filter assembly. Leaks will cause major problems. Replace with updated fuel filter assembly if needed.
Also inspect your front lower ball joints. The factory joints can wear out and separate while you are driving.
