All at once the TPS system went out, light showed up on the dash, "check TPM system" on the EVIC, and also showed "--" for pressure for every tire on the EVIC. Wheel sensors tested OK. Seems all I could research lead to the SKIM module.

I have a DRBIII, so figure I would just buy a new SKIM and program it and the keys myself.

Put the new SKIM in and gave it the PIN, which it accepted. Then, it needed to have the VIN associated to it, and that's when I got errors.

First one was:
"PCM Communications cannot be established. Please try this operation later."

Then the next screen was:
"NO RESPONSE from SKM. Please make certain of the following items:
1) Ignition is turned on
2) DRB III is properly connected to the Data connector"

Of course, both of the last were fine, I just put in the PIN.

Does anyone have any ideas to get it programmed? I hate to go to the dealer, they are terrible there.

Thanks in advance.

Wow someone else with a DRBIII!

I noticed some of the same behaviors you noticed during a PCM replacement. Sometimes when I tried to enter the SKIM menu it would not connect, IIRC the error was this one:

"NO RESPONSE from SKM. Please make certain of the following items:
1) Ignition is turned on
2) DRB III is properly connected to the Data connector"

I never sorted why this seemed to happen. I would try a power cycle on the vehicle, try other options, enter and exit other menus, but this one kicked me out.

Best I was able to determine was that leaving it be for awhile(overnight?) would then let me back in. I think it might be security related - the SKIM module is supposed to kick you out if the PIN is not correctly entered during key programming for a certain amount of time.

I guess I'm saying, try again tomorrow?

Also, did you have any issues with the vehicle starting?

So, I don't know why, but I had the 9043 Multiplexer Cable plugged in between the DRB and the Jeep. Removed it and plugged it in directly and it communicated.

Got the VIN programmed. Looking good. Noticed the EVIC showed a value "0" for tire pressure now, and the TPM dash light was off. Improving. Also noticed tho that the round red security light on the cluster was on.

Tried to program the 2 existing keys I have to the new SKIM. Gave me an error that the key was already programmed to another vehicle. With visions of having towing the Jeep to the dealer, I went into the menu and erased all existing keys to the vehicle. Then tried to program them, and same error. Jeep starts for a couple seconds and shuts off.

I put the old SKIM back in, the security light was off, and the Jeep ran. Whew. TPS was back to FUBAR. Least I can get to work tomorrow.

Guess I need to get new keys, get them cut, then program them??

My understanding is once a key has been programed or mated to a particular vehicle SKIM, it cannot be re-programed to any other vehicle... :(

Yup. it's a mopar thing. Once a key is programmed that chip cannot be programmed to anything else.

You guys, of course, were right. What I did though, was bought 2 new blank aftermarket keys from ebay for $18, and just swapped the circuit boards in the fobs. Programmed the "new" keys to the SKIM and no key cutting needed!

Can't seem to get the new SKIM to accept TPS sensor IDs though. The TPS function in the SKIM is enabled. The EVIC initally displayed "0" for every tire (zero), but now after a few key cycles went back to "--". The yellow TPM dash light will blink for about 1 minute after key on, and then go out. The EVIC shows "Check TPM System".

In the TPS sensor ID programming menu in the DRB III, it shows all zeros for the sensor IDs. If I try to program some IDs (have a screen shot of the real ones before removing old SKIM), it asks if this is the right sensor for the vehicle, and goes back to displaying zeros. And why does it matter? When I used to switch between the winter tire set and summer tire set, it used to pick up the other set of sensors fine without a hitch.

Any suggestions on getting the TPS sensors programmed?
