the cams were fine...
its all back together and it runs..
now I have a boost leak...I guessing one of the gaskets on the elbow is leaking a little..new ones on order
I think I know what happened...
when I put the timing belt on, I had the flywheel pin in place..seemed like a good idea, but it's not..
leave the cam pins or the cams fixed..but have the flywheel pin out..
this way its possible to rotate the crank about 5 degrees ccw from 90degrees.
this allows the belt to be tight between the crank and the fuel pump...
rotate the crank back to 90degrees after routing the belt, then install the tensioner..all while
making sure the belt does come loose anywhere...
set the tensioner and rotate the engine over 3-10 times to make sure the tensioner is adjusted
and the timing marks are right.
so what happened..
I put it together with the crack 1 tooth off... crank rotated 1 clockwise from 90degrees
at first the rockers weakened..this allowed it to run but lacking in preformace
then the rockers broke completely...causing a complete failure on cylinder #1( no power, thankfully no damage).
