Hi all,
Is there a simple way to check if the MAP sensor is working properly? I have cleaned it.
I have codes for high manifold pressures if I ask for grunt up a hill at any speed over 2,600rpm, the fuel consumption has gone down by 25%, trying to understand how the engine meters its fuel. A bit confusing on YouTube who do you believe?

I have a 2.8 Cherokee diesel and love it!

Simple solution; replace it with a new one, you can use GM part no. 55206797
They can be purchased on the web for ~20 dollars. :google:

ID Parts also carry them:> http://www.idparts.com/map-sensor-liber ... -2859.html

High manifold pressure?
Do you mean you are getting a P0234 over boost code?

P0234 can be caused by a bad MAP sensor, bad turbo vacuum solenoid, or stuck turbo vanes.

Post subject:  Re: Map sensor check

I have just taken it out and booted it the light came on immediately, reading the codes they are :-

PO 108 Manifold absolute pressure / Barometric pressure high

and

PO 234 Turbocharger / supercharger overboost condition

I have to drive it like an old lady to stop them coming up and putting it into limp mode, I will start with the MAP and fit a new one, can I check the vanes on the turbo to see if they are working?

As far as I know the 3 bar map for GM was from the Solstice GXP/Sky Redline UPGRADE kit. I believe the car came stock with a 2 or 2.5 bar map which would not function properly on our jeeps without adjustments to the tune.

You can take a look here for options. These are all MAPs that will physially fit our jeeps but if they are not 3 bar then they require a scaling adjustment in the tune.

Sounds like it's time for the Weeks Elbow Kit 1 & 2 if you have not already eliminated the EGR, EGR cooler & Flow Control Valve. My 2005 Libby CRD had similar symptoms and the Weeks 1 & 2 kit fixed the problem of constantly going in 'Limp Mode". search.php?keywords=sasquatch+elbow+i%5Ckit+1+%262&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

The sensor you ordered is correct.

GM 55206797 = bosch 0821002845 = correct MAP sensor for the CRD

NOT A THING!!!!

That is the GM part no. (Bosch part) I listed originally sold by IDParts!
Bosch
OEM Part Number: 55206797 (GM part no.)
Manufacturer Number: 68031593AA

55206797 IS A 3 Bar MAP Sensor!

This is the technical information I have on file for the Bosch Part for you techies:

Bosch 3.0 Bar T-Map Sensor / 0 281 002 845
Scalar A - 279.5555528
Scalar B - 0.23529412
Offset - 5.44444 (repeating)
using 65.7777 as the first multiplier, 1 as the second multiplier, and 5.4444 as the offset/additive.
= 11.0 kPa at 0.25v, 300.4219 kPa at 4.65v, and 306.9997 kPa at 4.75v

Post subject:  Re: Map sensor check

Thanks for all the help, there has been two developments.

First before I could fit the new MAP I had to do 4 trips up the motorway 220 miles each way about 1,700 miles total and most done on Cruse Control, when this was finished there was no problem with over boost! I have seen video of gummed up vanes? could the long runs cleaned out the turbo vanes? I have also seen video's of cooker cleaner filling the turbo to clean it have you seen this will it work or can I dismantle the turbo and clean it out?

Secondly for the technical amongst us, I fitted the new MAP sensor no problem but I have noticed a drop in economy of 20% ish, could the values the MAP is sending back be different from the original MAP sensor? I ditched the old one so can't put it back in but with a drop like this I will buy the correct MAP again soon.

thanks

Did you disconnect the battery before installing it so the computer could relearn the new MAP?

Does the ECU really need to be reset to "learn" a new MAP sensor?

No. Its the same scaling, nothing should change.

should I disconnect the battery now will that be needed?

by scaling do you mean the output values of the new MAP?
