ive been sorting out issues with my new jeep with alot of help from members here

One unresolved issue is a CEL that lights when the ignition is turned on , then turns off even with the ECU calling for it to be on

One potential cause maybe a defective body control module

I am looking to buy a used module
Which years and model of jeep do i need to look for as a donor?

Does it need to come from a 2006 crd?

thank you

The FCM is used only in the KJ CRD versions - '05-'06 are identical - the CEL lites at key-on to verify bulb-good, then turns off unless actual DTC exists - some DTC's do not lite CEL - sounds like urs is functional, no problem

The BCM requires dealer-programming to match ur KJ specs - not a simple swap-out

You can have dealer check your '06 with STARSCAN

CEL turns on when key is turned on
Then CEL turns off

Scans show that the CEL is commanded "on"

Something is wrong, not sure where to start looking

What specific code are you getting that is supposed to cause the CEL/MIL to be "on"

I have the MAF disconnected. This should generate a CEL
I also had a government emission test that gave 4 codes for glow plugs out of range
The print out from the scan shows that the CEL is commanded on
Nothing i disconnect causes the CEL to come on

P'raps your recently-acquired KJ has an aftermarket tune which puts the quietus on several DTC\CEL's
- a DCJ STARSCAN or AUTOENGINUITY scan, or the scanner ARMYCHIEF mentioned in a 'nuther post would give you more information

One attempt at getting the CEL to work was to flash my ECU with a program from a friends CRD that has a properly working CEL

Still the same problem, so its not an issue with a strange reflash

Why do you suspect the BCM?

Briefly looking over the FSM. The BCM communicates with the EMIC. Now, it looks like you don't have a scantool. Your using a printout from the state testing facility.

There are a few things you really should consider before buying parts at this juncture.

Get a good OE level scantool that can correctly communicate with the modules on your vehicle.
Do some diagnostics to determine the most likely cause.

You say you flashed your PCM with another PCM file. Wow, that's pretty evasive to rule out a PCM. So, that means you have a OBDII programming cable & software to read and write BIN files.

Lastly, if these hybrid Liberty's (DC, MB & Italian) follow typical MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light - CEL), then the PCM is the authority to request the MIL. Based off the FSM, the BCM is who communicates over the PCI bus to the EMIC and request the MIL.

So, lets recap

Get a OE level scantool and do a FULL module scan and list ANY codes
Perform a BUS diagnostics
Enter BCM with scantool and request MIL light, bi-directional testing and see if it comes on (if that test is available)
Is there a data PID in BMC that indicates PCM has requested MIL?
Enter EMIC with scantool and request MIL light, bi-directional testing and see if it comes on
Remove EMIC and induce a bus code and see if it sets.

Then determine if your issue is PCM, EMIC or BCM

Yep - you will pay for a dealer scan with the DCJ scantool that will scan your KJ in entirety, so the results belong to you - get the printout and post the results here, and we can take it from there

Will a bad BCM take out my break light turn signals hazards door locks and only alow the head lights and door locks to only work when the ignition is on? Also the key unlock lock is not working, all this happened at the same time because of a short in the wire harness that has been fixed , 2006 jeep liberty 2.8 CRD

It could be a BCM problem, but could also be a bad ground or blown fuse. Doesn't cost anything to check fuses and grounds; do that first before you start throwing money and parts at it.
