TC install tips

I ordered a Florida converter. Should be here anyday now. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for installing it? Any more parts I should get prior to pulling it out? I'm going to get a new seal for the TC. I have the transgo kit to put in. I already did the stuff in the valve body last year. I might as well change the filters again as well. It has a delayed engagement of reverse when it sits over night. I just put it in neutral and let it run a little bit before I stick it in reverse.

I'm going to do the transgo upgrades to the current pump. I don't have the funds for a new pump. Couldn't really afford the converter but the wife is taking it to Denver next month, so I have to make it reliable for her.

I definitely would replace the front pump assembly. There are wear items in the assembly that get worn out with age.... :wink:

The common wisdom on LOST has been that you can't get the old TC (pump housing) seal. I thought I might have found one from rock auto, and I can dig it out if you want, but you very well may not be able to get that seal, so I hope you haven't pulled the old one yet.
The new pump's new housing cover fits the seal that you'll probably receive. Lame I know...

Note: the TCC limit valve repair will require a special reaming tool/machining

Thanks flash. I still have shudder, but I'm pretty sure it's the buzzing solenoid pack since the link is upgraded. At least I don't have to drop the transmission again.

If I upgrade to the newer style pump, Do I need the cover plate as well? Is there anything else? I was going to start on this today but my buddy with the tranny jack isn't getting back to me. Also does anybody know how much fluid I should pick up to do just the converter and pump?

You will most liekly have to replace the cover plate anyways. I know I had to. The gasket material and such comes off on the pump and everything else when you remove it no matter how gentle you are. If you want it to seal correctly you will most likely have to purchase one.

I did the TC replacement before as the OEM one failed on my 06. the vaynes inside completely separated from the input shaft so every gear except park acted like neutral. No engine light .. nothing.

got a euro TC and put it in along with a Transgo Kit. You will likely have to get a dealer to do a relearn on the trans. Mine shifted really hard and didn't act right until I did that. Now it drives really nice and shifts super quick.

Make sure you get it filled all the way back up with trans fluid, and also that none of your trans lines are rusty or leaky.

Best I remember, the replacement front pump is a newer style than the OEM original and requires a newer style front cover to go with it, if replaced! :roll:

Make sure you follow the instructions that come with the pump. If you are not careful, according to the instructions, you can pull the input shaft out and the transmission has to be disassembled to put the shaft back in place. I read this after I changed the pump. Doh! But I lucked out I guess.

I got it all back together. I did have to drop the pan to put the filter back in the pump. I went ahead and got new filters since I had the pan off. It took exactly 3 gallons of ATF to fill it back up. It ran great with no relearn needed. I did the trans-go parts for the valve body last year. The lower stall feels more like it should and no more shuddering.

I had to pull the trans tonight. The pump cover is leaking. I nicked the o-ring putting it back in. I'll get another cover tomorrow. I did get the trans out in less than 2 hours by myself tonight. With a cheap harbor freight trans jack. Not recommended. It almost fell to one side.
