Hi there everyone!

First time posting to this forum but come here all the time troubleshoot. :)

I've had my 05 Liberty CRD since 2011, its currently sitting right on the brink of 200k miles, and the past two cooler seasons (I've been in both California and the deep south, so not very cold, maybe 20 degrees at the coolest) and its struggled in start in what seems to be luke warm weather. The issue primarily occurs when the jeep sits overnight and cools down (and I mean 50 degrees, not actually cold), and will simply crank without starting. However, if you plug the block heater in for 15-20 mins before attempting to start, its fires up without an issue. The glow plugs were replaced at around 180k miles, so I don't think they're the issue, and no codes are being thrown for them. Also the ignition, battery, and alternator are all quite new as well.

As anyone else encountered this problem?

Thank you,
S

Just search through this forum.
Lots of discussions about glow plugs and cold starts.

Which glow plugs do you have?

Most people agree the aftermarket glow plugs don't work as well as the factory ones did. Unfortunately the factory style ones aren't available anymore because they were breaking off inside the engine and causing problems.

You could try waiting a little longer (maybe 5 seconds) with the key in the "on" position before starting it. If that doesn't work, try running the glow plugs twice (key 'on', wait 5 seconds, key 'off', key 'on', wait 5 seconds, 'start').

I wonder if the entire glow plug circuit is unplugged (bad wire or relay or...) If you get a Cel? Also i wonder if you're letting the glow plugs warm up for 3-5 seconds
