Its been discovered that some Duramax parts crossover to our CRD.
Various sensor and injector wire connectors.
Injector return lines.
I've even replaced my fuel rail pressure sensor with a duramax sensor. It works great.

Here is the CRD solenoid listed on IDparts.com with picture (incorrectly labled as a sensor)
http://www.idparts.com/fuel-rail-pressure-sensor-liberty-crd-p-6240.html

And here is a duramax solenoid listed on ebay with picture
http://m.ebay.com/itm/SILVERADO-SIERRA-DURAMAX-FUEL-PRESSURE-RELIEF-VALVE-2011-2014-NEW-OEM-12611872-/151794205599?_trkparms=aid%253D222007%2526algo%253DSIC.MBE%2526ao%253D1%2526asc%253D20150519202348%2526meid%253Daf43ddcd3457453a9ac3f10ac9a32e0c%2526pid%253D100408%2526rk%253D3%2526rkt%253D17%2526mehot%253Dlo%2526sd%253D261863146929&_trksid=p2056116.c100408.m2460

The two solenoids look exactly the same!

So what are the chances that the duramax solenoid will work on the CRD?
Seems highly likely to me.
The duramax runs at the same rail pressures and the pressure sensor is inter changable.

What do you think?

Highly likely!
If you can find a Bosch number for the part, we may can do some cross referencing...

Did a lot of googling, and I think I got the Bosch number, http://www.opticatonline and I lost the rest of that link. But it's a different Bosch number than 0281002507, and it only lists that number for gm/chevy

They look like the same part; I only found two images of the GM part, still need both Bosch numbers to really compare them!
Need that Bosch number off the back of the GM Duramax part if it has one!

Looking at both the images; they look identical, the Mopar/Bosch part and the GM part, both screw in and have 90 degree connections.
Electronically, they could be the same or different????

0281006019 is the Bosch number. I gave up looking for specs, but only listed for GM

I've been looking for more info as well.

These parts APPEAR to be identical, and they MIGHT be interchangeable, but the Jeep part is Bosch, and the GM part is Czech made, and has only GM numbers.

Also, The Jeep system has the valve at the far end of the fuel rail. The GM system has this component in the high pressure port of the high pressure fuel pump, as far as I can tell. I only have the ship diagrams to go by, not a physical sample to compare.

On 2011-2016, the sensors are on the end of the left hand fuel rail. Pressure sensor on one end, fuel solenoid on the other!

0281006019 is the correct Bosch part no. for the GM 12611872 fuel solenoid. Both parts look identical!

Yeah, my guess is that one flows more return than the other, I'm guessing the big v8 returns more, but they use the exact same cp3 don't they? It might be worth a try if you're brave. We should ask Keith at GDE, he would know better than anyone. I wish the spec sheet was easy to find for both. Maybe with enough googling someone will find them.

Woops you are correct WWDiesel.

I mistook the FQS in the Duramax CP4. It also has a 90deg 2 pole connector, and looks very much like the Bosch Fuel Pressure Relief Valve.

OK, I will be the guinea pig for this one.

I cancelled my order for the complete rebuilt rail assembly, and ordered the GM 12611872. I can return it if it doesn't work, and re-order the rail.

I think it should work, and I will post whether or not it does.

Electrically, it should be the same. Its just a solenoid.
The relief ports might be a slightly different diameter. But because the ECM modulates the solenoid based on pressure sensor values, I would think it would quickly adapt.

At this point I'm daring to expect that, but should know for sure by the 18th.

I doubt the cp3 is exactly the same, they make a bunch of different sizes. I think generally the only difference is the piston size which is why so many companies can make upgraded pumps for the big diesels, they just mod the stock pump housing and put bigger oem Bosch pistons in.

Not that I actually know, but I don't know that it would adapt, what it might do is initially overshoot and then use some kinda formula(3rd order polynomial or something) to get it back where it should be. This is how the vnt works, there is a map that says what the vane angle should be for a certain condition and then it usually overshoots slightly and the ecu cuts back a little. It may bounce back and forth a few times before it really locks in on the desired boost.

If it truly can dump more fuel then the Ecu may have the wrong formula and you may end up in a situation where it can't dampen the rail pressure fluctuations properly. It literally is the mathematical version of a spring and shock in a car, if the shock is under damper then the car just keeps bouncing after a bump.

Just my thoughts but it's totally worth a shot.

I will definitely post IF and HOW it works, (or not.)

I ordered the valve yesterday morning. I received a shipping notice with tracking number less than 10 minutes later.

Stunningly good service!

Correct.
A duramax CP3 would have to supply more volume to feed 8 injectors. Therefore it would have larger pistons.
But the injection pressures would be about the same.

yeah cause they use the same pressure sensor too don't they? Our jeeps operate at 1600 bar and the sensor is limited to 1800 I think.

The Duramax system this valve comes from. uses CP4.
CP4 has less volume output than our CP3, but can supply higher pressures.

A tuner at Oregon Fuel Injection told me that the standard CP3 can deliver 600+ HP worth of fuel.

The high volume ones use a longer stroke as well as bigger pistons, and deliver over 1000HP of fuel.
[Edit] The difference in piston diameter is very small.
Increased stroke is preferred as increasing bore raises the force on the piston enormously when working at these pressures. (force=pressure x area)

Competition diesels use up to 4 HP pumps with dedicated ECMs to control them.
