Hi everyone, I've been reading up on disconnecting my fuse 36 viscous heater, cabin heater diesel kj 2.8. It is located at power distribution centre near battery. Could someone clarify this as it looks like it's on the same circuit as air bags and I don't want to disable that for obvious reasons. Page 767 service manual |

Pull viscous heat RELAY #36. Its not a fuse. |

Ok, thankyou for clarifying that for me. |

FYI in case it matters. Pulling the viscous heater relay will set a fault code (B10B3-VISCOUS/CABIN HEATER RELAY CONTROL OPEN CIRCUIT) but will not trigger the CEL light. Code is harmless unless your vehicle is subject to inspections that involve hooking a code reader up and looking for set codes. In the latter case several days before inspection plug the relay back in and do like 5-10 drive cycle, actually drive not just key on/off, which should clear the hidden code. |

I appreciate your help, I have been driving for years and never really taken a interest in the mechanics electric side of things with cars, but since owning my KJ it's got me hooked loving learning about this wee truck and improving it. Thankyou. |

I just removed the viscous heater relay from one of our 2006 CRD's during some maintenance and mods. I checked for codes after the test drive and none were present. |

I think only some readers pick up this code, and the AC pressure switch codes (I deleted AC) as I just noticed then on my GDE tuner/reader, but didn't see them on my little Bluetooth reader. |

I used my GDE box, no codes. |

Odd my GDE box reads the code on my "former" 05 and my son's 06 |

I keep my VC heater relay unplugged all the time, never use it, no codes are present with code reader... ![]() |

If you install the HDS-001 the V.H. is not needed, so it would make sense to get the smaller belt, and remove the Viscous Heater, to show off the pretty pretty CNC'd housing. |

It's also an additional potential failure point (a few people have had the bearing go out on theirs) and sucks up some fuel mileage, so if you don't care about having heat a bit sooner...

When I saw my bearing was bad, I went ahead and replaced it before I spent any time thinking about it. Now that the bearing and belt are both new, I'll just leave it alone until one or the other needs attention again. |
