Hi there..
This has likely been asked before, but I couldn't find it using the search.
My 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD has now just over 159,000 KM and it is due for the timing belt replacement.
Can anyone please comment on the Timing Belt Kit (Liberty CRD)
IDParts Expert Kit? I see it advertised in Lost Jeeps but would love to hear some testimonials from actual users of the kit, as to quality, fit, etc.
Any problems with the kit?

Thanks for any help in this!

ID Parts kit is all well known brand parts....no issues with it.

Your timing belt is about 3 years overdue to be changed based on age alone never mind mileage. It should be done ASAP.

You won't go wrong with IDParts belt change / water pump kit.

I used them for my '06. Great parts, good price, fast shipping and totally trustworthy. This is a big and important job, there's just no way you can do it with anything but premium parts.

Investigating parts needed to change mine, so I'm looking for WYIT parts.

The ID Expert parts kit lists a thermostat down below, but it doesn't say anything showing that it isn't anything more than a run of the mill OEM thermostat? Isn't it supposed to be replaced with a higher temp one?

Replacing the thermostat is NOT a required part of the timing belt service and yes the one idParts lists is the OEM one which is "ok" but somewhat iffy on durability and is a 176F or so tstat which is a bit cold for ideal diesel operation. I'd leave the one you have alone when you do the TB service unless it has failed open or opening too soon (temp gauge needle never gets to just a hair left of vertical).

If you have the $s Jeff's unit is the top of the line option (I have purchased 2 - a bit pricey and over engineered but very good). Other options exist to mod the OEM housing to accept a replaceable tstat if you are so inclined. I would not recommend an in line except for brief use while waiting for a replacement unit.

OEM thermostat is available in 176F only. It will outlast any mass marketed aftermarket bolt-in replacement by a huge difference (Omix-Aida, Crown, etc)

To install a higher temp thermostat involves either a great deal more money (HDS-001) There is NO BETTER solution available at any price, and if you keep your Jeep beyond the third thermostat change, it will have paid for it's self. Plus the widest range of thermostat temps of any of the alternatives.

OR

a great deal of fabrication skill (machining and / or welding of aluminum) , plus time,

OR

a great deal of risk (inline, 'stats. They restrict and modify the coolant flow)

Never ever recommend an in-line thermostat; they have been proven to be very dangerous when used in conjunction with a failed OEM thermostat! :grim:

That's exactly why I emphasized the risk. It's better that they know about the option, and that it's not a good choice, and why.
